Mac version incombatible with PC?
I just got the mac version this morning. I have been looking forward to getting this game for months now so I can play a co op campaign with my friend (He uses a PC). However, when I tried to launch it, it said our versions were incombatible. I can't even join a multiplayer game hosted by a PC. Are they gonna fix this issue? I think it is a large one as many of the people playing this game are gonna be on PC, leaving the mac users to try and find games of their type.

I had the same question. Here is Feral Interactive's (company who made the game) response:

Feral Interactive We always enable Mac <-> PC multiplayer when technically possible, but sometimes it isn’t, which was the case with SHOGUN 2.

Basically, the multiplayer code has some platform-dependant features, so it acts slightly differently on different operating systems, causing sync issues that can’t be resolved without redesigning how the multiplayer code works on all platforms.

If you want a more technical answer (hold onto your hats!)… some games’ multiplayer libraries were not designed for cross-platform when they were initially created. Multiplayer networking is a complex process with many things that need to be kept in exact and perfect sync with other players. This is done by using complex mathematical processes. When a game engine is designed to support cross-platform multiplayer, care is taken to make sure all of the mathematical processes are done in such a way that they don’t use any platform-specific features and the maths libraries and results will always match no matter what platform the engine is built on.

In the case of SHOGUN 2, the game engine uses the platform’s maths libraries to calculate checksums and syncing between players. This means that due to very subtle differences in various platforms’ maths libraries (floating point calculations specifically) playing games between different platforms would slowly go out of sync due to the small differences, ending up with the players dropping out due to sync issues getting too great. Although we did a lot of investigation to see if we could get the Mac platform to act like Windows, unfortunately this was not feasible with SHOGUN 2.

I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear, as I didn't want too either. I know many people who play this on PCs, but I'm a Mac guy.. I guess all we can do is pray they figure it all out and allow both platforms to play with each other.

God Bless!
That is fustrating :/ thank you for sharing it though.
i bought this game to play with my friends who r mac users and i have a pc, i am really angry about this how
