Some are much better than others, is how I'd size it up.

Okehazama is actually very close to what the historical situation was, imo, and I'd consider it to be the most overall historically accurate Shogun 2 historic battle, in terms of numbers, weather, terrain, situation, and objectives.

Some of the battles though are just completely different from what we've been able to piece together with documents and archaeology.

The most "fantasized" historic battle in the game would be Nagashino, imo: it is basically nothing like the actual battle at all, aside from who the opposing sides are.

In between these extremes, you have ones that fall along a spectrum in the middle, and I'd include Sekigahara in that.

On the one hand, the devs did a beautiful job with the battle map of Sekigahara, and most importantly, they captured a lot of the political component of the battle, which was the decisive factor and a huge feature of battles from this period which unfortunately isn't represented much.

On the other hand, the weather is wrong (all the accounts agree that the weather was very foggy and rainy), and I think they could've done more by having the ebb and flow of the battle represented, maybe by having lots of new units entering in as reinforcements as the battle develops.

I give CA a pass on the numbers, because it's impossible to represent the real numbers with the engine, and I also give them a pass on how easily the player can win it: this is a factor of the player being a human, after all, not necessarily an error in how the forces are disposed or represented.

PS: The Shogun 2 historic battles are some of the best in the entire series, imo. Empire's were a complete joke, and the Battle of Rossbach in Empire would be my pick for absolute worst historic battle in TW: terrain is wrong, forces are wrong, dispositions are wrong, all the opening movements and what your options for movement are is wrong, and the scale is a joke (like 10 units per side? Lol wtf).

Funny enough, I'd consider the most well done historic battle in TW overall, for authenticity, production value and presentation, to actually be the tutorial battle for Med 2, Hastings.

Is Shogun 2 historically accurate?

I think that should answer your question.

It's an imitation ...

Thanks for answering. I was already suspicious about accurace when fighting other historic battles, but when I got to Sekigahara I was certain.

first of all as above post point out there is no historic battle what so ever, historie is writen by the winners not true at all in what happend, but it will be the recorded so called truth in what we think happend, so its a good simulations or what might could have happend.

historie has been change so many times then we discover more about and it do change how we see things, and why it happend but we better stop here, because i doubt it can simple reply on who did what and even in this little game with one nation. it is as best they know pt. then game was written.

I actually know that. I'm studying to get my master's degree in History. Historiography is definitly not new to me.
Having made some of the most advanced maps in game i can tell you Osaka one is absolutelly non historical . It does not even look close to what it was.
