I am playing as Chosokabe so they are pretty far to me. Every time I am far away from them, they destroy everyone in their area.
My tip if you are being threatened by Ikko Ikki, just hire a bunch of monks and have them do rebellions in Ikko Ikki provinces. You will get really high success rates (get level 3 monks from a pilgrim hostel for better results) and soon Ikko Ikki will have no provinces and be very poor and weak.
The ones that usually get big are the takeda for whatever reason, and the Chosokabe and Date I assume because they are kind of isolated at the start and can boom without being bothered.
Shimazu: usually wiped out really early by the other Kyushu clans. However in my last campaign they took over everything west of Kyoto and usurped the shogunate.
Otomo: often get wiped out early, but often linger around on Kyushu for a while but eventually get wiped out. A couple of times I have played campaigns where Otomo took over everything west of Kyoto and took over Kyoto. It was annoying finding that they built leased land in all of their provinces, of course without any honor penalty for their daimyo. Now I use a mod that lets me demolish leased land on the off chance that Otomo expand a lot.
Mori: nearly always wiped out in the first few turns. Used to be that they'd sometimes end up for me as a formidable late game AI clan but haven't seen that in a long time.
Chosokabe: turtle city. They usually take over all of Shikoku and then just kind of sit there for a zillion turns. Sometimes they take some provinces on Honshu but just as often end up losing all those provinces. They're almost always one of the last clans standing because of their isolation. It's always really annoying sending an army there because by the end of the game they have a bunch of max level agents that wipe out all my generals and agents.
Hattori: always a big threat in the early game, they always take a bunch of territories and build a bunch of armies and can be annoying to get rid of. However their armies tend to get bugged and hide their bows way far away from their melee troops, so I just destroy their melee troops with my bows and win easily. Usually they get wiped out after their rapid rise in the early game.
Ikko Ikki: I already described them above...
Tokugawa: can't remember them ever lasting more than a couple turns. I think they're pretty hard-coded to get wiped out ASAP by Oda.
Oda: almost always get wiped out very early game, but other times they do well and take over most of central Japan. Very rare to see them in the late game but I have seen it a couple of times.
Takeda: always the strongest and most aggressive AI clan by far. They always last into the late game. Every time. As an AI clan they always travel with multiple full stacks backing one another up. If I'm their neighbor I have to prepare for this. I always try and wipe them out as quickly as I can but it can take a really long time.
Hojo: not as aggressive as Takeda but they can last a while. Often they get wiped out by Takeda, or they stay allied with them and the two clans basically divvy up central-northern Japan together.
Uesugi: almost always get wiped out very early, but sometimes they do well and last a bit. Very rare to see them last into the mid-game.
Date: they tend to take the four northernmost provinces and then just kind of sit there forever.
Yep, this is pretty much the same experience I had. But for some reason Ikko Ikki always survives in my campaigns. I don't know if I am causing it or it's just random.
Just about everything that happens in the campaign is random. It's why I love Shogun 2 so much, no two campaigns are ever alike. In other Total War games the same things happen in most campaigns. Maybe Ikko Ikki would last longer for me but when they get powerful I tend to destroy them with monk rebellions.
I don't have the dlc.
Didnt the sale just end?
