What is this Bullsh*t?!
So I wanted to play an Oda campaign as christian. I've manage to convert and I think here lies the problem. I shifted my campaign over to Kyushu, so it was easy to convert.
It's 1590 and European traders still haven't bloody arrived. This is p*ssing me off as I cannot reap the benefits of being christian but I'm dealing with the negatives.
My question is, has anyone converted to christianity and still got the event of European traders?

Has the Black ship been captured by one of the other factions? There will not be another if this is the case.
You should get the "do you want Nanban trade" message at some point, it shouldn't have anything to do with the black ship. It should definitely happen before 1590.

Check to see if you can upgrade a trade port to a nanban port, you might have not noticed you got the message about it, or maybe you accidentally declined it. Once you have a nanban port you get a message video about christianity, and you can choose to convert.
Sorry, mis-read OP.

Bastard Sword. The OP states he has already converted.
Yes, I have multiple trade ports and one nanban trade port captured from the Otomo clan on Kyushu.
I basically spammed end turn to see when the buggers would show up but nothing, I gave up after 1592. As such I cannot upgrade my ports to nanban ones nor can I upgrade my only nanban trade port to a trade quarter.
During my end turn spam the black ship showed but a few times, I sunk it for ♥♥♥♥♥ and gigs on it's second arrival, even that as shown up again but still no damn event message.

I think it's bugged, I think because I'm already christian it's not coming up. I'm going to try to see if by destroying my nanban port it will trigger it.
I am struggling to recall the logic of converting, it's not something I often do, Bastard Sword will probably explain better.

I think that, you only get the European Traders notification if you don't have a nanban Trade port. It is what allows you to build one.

You have a nanban trade port already (acquired from the Otomo) so you will not get another notification.

You can only have one nanban trade port, so you will not be able to upgrade your other Trading ports to nanban trade ports (there are ways around this, but for the sake of simplicity, I'm not going to explain that here).

You can only upgrade the nanban trade port to a nanban quarter. I don't understand why you are unable to do this.

Are you able to build christian religious buildings (Chapel / Hospital etc)?
(there are ways around this, but for the sake of simplicity, I'm not going to explain that here)* It's not difficult

I've sussed it. My initial attempt, destroying my nanban port didn't work. I had to kill off my Daimyo, and convert back to Buddhism. Shortly after that I received the trading event. Obviously to covert back I had to kill my Daimyo again. I conceived of this plan when a minor clan popped up and shortly converted.
It seems the sole trigger for European Traders is to covert you to christianity, which isn't anachronistic. Can't understand CA's decision to made it just a linear progress for christianity. Basically Traders event - nanban trading port - convert - nanban trading quarters. I surmised that the reason I can't build nanban quarter is *because* I never received a trading event to begin with. Which is the whole point

The sole reason I converted was to give it a go as a christian.
Curious. I don't remember having this problem when I did it as the Mori, but it may be that I didn't have a nanban trade port as I would have built one in Buzen and that may have been before I acquired the Otomo port in whatever their province is called. - it's too far back to recall.

It makes sense that the problem was due to a linear sequence of events being the cause (not that the linear sequence itself makes sense).

Oh ok.

I don't really understand what the issue is though. At some point (should be way before 1590) you get a "strangers have reached our shores" video (or something like that) and you are asked if you want foreign trade and a free matchlock ashigaru unit. (yes please) Then you can upgrade one trading port to a nanban trade port. Then you should get a "the old gods have had their time" video. Then you can convert to christianity. Then you can upgrade the nanban trade port to a nanban quarter.

I haven't seen OP asking about the black ship at all. The black ship appears randomly and scoots around the coast of Japan. You just kind of have to hope that you see it come near your shores and hope that you have a nearby full stack of medium bunes or whatever to auto-resolve and capture it.
Yeah, I mis-read - which led to inappropriate Black Ship comment.
