How do Otomo priests work?
So I incited a rebellion in a neighboring castle but it seemed like the rebels were hostile and coming towards me... also do rebellions give a boost to Christianity?

Rebels will never leave the province they're in. They may move away from the castle to do some raiding, but eventually they'll head to the castle and take it over. I don't think rebellions affect a province's religion at all.

Rebellions in Shogun 2 are kind of weird. You actually get a far FAR higher success rate of causing a rebellion in a province that is 100% not your religion. So if you send a priest to a province that is 100% Buddhist , he will have a much higher chance of causing a rebellion than in a province that is 100% Christian. And if you have a Buddhist or Ikko Ikki monk, they will have a much higher chance of causing rebellion in a 100% Christian province.

It's why I find that Christianity just breaks the game, because when you are Christian, nearly every other clan on the map are Buddhist, and it's incredibly easy to cause rebellions. If you are a Buddhist clan then it's really hard to cause rebellions because nearly all clans are also Buddhist, and there are often only one or two clans that are Christian and they're all in the far west.

So basically you really don't want to convert another clan's province at all to your religion. Rebellions in Fall of the Samurai make a lot more sense, because you have to first convert a province to your faction before you can get a good chance of causing a rebellion.

Thank you for the info :CatHapi: At least the AI will get some xp if they beat the rebellion and everyone hates Christians (on my 3rd restart already), so I think that balances it out a bit lol

Yeah it can be tough when everyone hates you for being Christian but once you get a few monks you can turn the whole map into a rebel wasteland. You can also build European trade ships which let you easily control trade nodes and fight off annoying enemy ships.
