How to walk units into position?
If you hold down right click to move units to a specific point and face a certain way they run.
How to get them to walk (so i can move matchlocks in trees for setting up)?

Alt + Hold and drag right click = formation unit/group will Run to formed from centre.

Suggest experiment with these during army deployment phase to familiarise yourself.

One right click is walk, 2 right clicks are run. Additionally you can press 'r' to switch between run and walk and there is also a button for that on the lower left corner. In that corner you also find arrows with taht you can move units. So there are quite alot wys

Although shown for Rome 2, the controls are similar for Shogun 2 - this video is very useful

For the record, there are arrow buttons below your general's portrait (lower left corner) that could help with moving your army forward/backward in formation. Also, there are buttons for turning left/right and increasing/decreasing number of rows in unit(s). Might be that I've forgot some functionality, but those for movement can be helpful sometimes.

I guess I didn't really expressed right what I mean. So what some people don't know is that units are in fact allowed to be in the run state for a very short time. Give your unit a command and if it runs you just need to activate walk within 1 sec or so and it still remains hidden. The way I move units through a forest is usually one right click to a location I want them to go. For a special way I use shift, where you also are just allowed to press one time to make them walk to each way point. If I want the unit to set up in a special direction and length, I hold and drag with right mouse button. Then they will run but its very possible to deactivate run in time before they get revealed. The fast way is to press 'r' but the safer way imo is to press the run button till its walk. If there is a very small part in the forest line I use the arrow buttons meowcedon mentioned aswell. They allow you to increase ranks which is very useful and you can also move it forward in a direct line in little steps without to give new commands. I never said that you don't know how to make units run, I just often play with proplayers so when I explain things, people don't understand me sometimes as I expected an advanced knowledge of the game

That's a good point about the shift key for the way-points. I use this a lot to move kisho ninja around the battlefield so they won't get discovered and also for moving units around a castle I am attacking to avoid the archer towers.

When you hold and drag with the right mouse button to set the unit up in a special direction and length, hold the ctrl key while you do it. That way they will walk there without the need to hit R or the run button to stop them running. I think you will find it easier.
