Game Crashes at First Loading Screen (Windows 10) (SOLVED)
SOLVED AFTER RESTARTING MY LAPTOP FRESH, ONLY SAVING SOME IMPORTANT FILES

I've been here a couple times and so far no solution has worked. I've done every suggestion I've seen so far; verify game cache, update drivers, uninstall and reinstall, check if antivirus is doing anything. The game was working fine 9 months ago then suddenly it just doesn't work.
What exactly happens:
I start the game through steam, asks me to choose; Play Total War: Shogun 2, Encyclopaedia, Benchmark DX11 Graphics High 1080p, Benchmark DX11 Graphics High 720p, Benchmark Game Settings, Benchmark DX9 Graphics High 720p, Benchmark DX9 CPU. I choose Play Total War: Shogun 2 obviously then it asks me DirectX mode with choices of DirectX 9 or 11.

If I choose 9, the first loading screen freezes (the one that says Shogun 2, all the copyrights, software used etc). It just doesn't do anything and says not responding in the task manager. I have to close everything just to be able to use my computer again.

If I choose 10, the same first loading screen shows up then after a few seconds it completely crashes and closes itself.

I have the HP Omen 15-AX243DX Gaming Notepad (laptop)

I'll suck off anyone who fixes this problem. All other Total Wars work on this computer, literally the only one I love and want to play doesn't work FML

Try turn off hyperthreading, use windows 7 compatability and turn off fullscreen optimizations. That way I got the directx 9 option to work. Can't get directx 11 option to work though.

What about DEP? Is that on or off?

I added Shogun2.exe and AwesomiumProcess.exe to the "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" tab if that's what you mean.

I've been messing around a lot. windows 7 compatibility, turn off fullscreen optimizations, run as admin. Doing it for Shogun2.exe and Awesomium mixing settings. Sometimes with Directx9 it doesn't respond which was the original problem, and sometimes it crashes completely so maybe we're making some ground lol

I found I had to disable DEP completely from windows not just add to list. I have a couple that even though added to that list never worked until I disable DEP completely.

Also install directx 9c June 2010. It doesn't come with windows 10.

Yeah I ended up doing that too, nothing... TT
How do I install that DirectX Version?

Either get it from another game or from www.microsoft.com and search directx 9c. It is about 100 mb.Once downlaod double click it or run as admin and it will extract the files. Open the new folder and look for setup.exe. Run that as admin and it will install the files.

Hopefully this will let your game launch. Also try make sure windows media play and directplay are enabled in windows 10. Go to install/ uninstall and look for Microsoft (it should be at top. I don't know exact wording) then choose legacy, tick directplay then look for media player then choose media player to install.

Downloaded it, nothing.
DirectPlay wasn't enabled but when I did enable it, nothing changed.

Try check that the game is starting with the Nvidia card. I read there should be a setting in the Nvidia control panel to ensure games use the graphic card and not Intel.

Anything specific I should be looking for?
In windows logs > System there are 5,631 events.

Check for application errors. Launch the game then when it crashes go to event viewer and see what it says.

Yeah I get 3 EventID 10016 Errors. I tried to fix it from this youtube video, followed the instructions, but nothing happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjz8uLblc_8

What if you create a shortcut and try right click and run as admin? I get that error a lot with Steam. Only way I could solve was right click Steam shortcut and say run as admin then Steam launches. Maybe that would work for your game?
