Advanced Tutorial Cannon bug

So, I tried to complete all the tutorials before heading for the first campaign and wasted an hour of my life trying to beat the advanced tutorial, the castle siege. I got slaughtered every single time, no matter how I approached it (and yes, I used the Ninja with their stealth option). When I looked for advice online how to get that scenario out of the way, I found out that the European Cannon unit in the middle of the field is unresponsive and cannot fire at the enemy gate because of a bug THAT WAS REPORTED AND CONFIRMED BY CA MORE THAN FOUR YEARS AGO!

Hello? Anybody home? I know perfectly well that older games do not get as much attention from the developer as current titles, but that the tutorial is still bugged after all that time - with frustrating, not at all entertaining results for a new player - is a shameful display!

I'm surprised people play the tutorial.

The best way to learn the game is to jump right in I believe. Scripted tutorials might be nice for holding one's hand, but there's no tutorial for the rough bloodiness that is the actual unscripted fight.

Your comment is not helpful. Obviously, a tutorial is there to provide an introduction of the game mechanics and controls to new players like me. That is their purpose, and with a bug like that, it is a failure on the devs' part, especially considering how long this bug is known to them.

What you are saying is basically "tutorials are for p**ies, look at me what a tough guy I am". So, thank you for showing your colours in public. I don't really care for that.

Ye no that's not what he meant. Besides, that tutorial it itself is even less necessary because you rarely get to use cannons unless you actually go for them.

I don't see any "tutorials are for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" in my statement but ok. I only said you won't lose anything by not doing that tutorial because cannons are very situational and rare units.
The only thing you need to know about them is you better have a clear line of sight and they can't move from where you deploy them, that's all.

Yes it's broken, what do you want the players here to do about that? If you're really intent on that, you might have some luck if you go to the official CA's Shogun 2 forum, maybe they'll listen and push an update sometime (but I really doubt it).

Yeah, like they did in 2014, when a CA staff member in a public forum confirmed that this bug was real and reproducable. Except nobody did anything to fix this issue. It's a shame.

I never meant to imply that tutorials were for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, just that learning from the tutorial is like learning from the American Education System. Most of it sucks, and there's a few bits that will be learnable, but everything mostly just sucks.

Besides, I'm not a tough guy. Not like those guys who like to play on Very Hard difficulty anyways. Just your average casual weeb who likes to turn on cheat mods when I'm bored.

Well, I tried to help, but I was tagged as a jackass trying to insult you.

I tried to help smoothen that out by stating I wasn't trying to insult you, but I was insulted.

But if you must insist on playing the Advanced Tutorial before playing a Campaign, I can't do much else but say Good Luck, I hope you manage to actually start a new campaign sometime soon.

I think I found a way to get them activated, at least it has just worked for me. Firstly, select them by left-clicking and drawing a box around them. Once selected, order them to drop the weapon using one of the buttons at the top. Once that's done, you should see the soldiers move away slightly. Once that's done, order them to pick up the cannon again, by clicking on one of the cannon. Bingo, they're yours

And I've just tried again and it didn't work. I must have done something beforehand to unlock them

So apparently if you press ESC during the intro sequence with the advisor, the cannons will fire when the battle begins.
