Kaiyo Maru or Kotetsu Ironclad for fire support?
I tend not to use my fleets in active engagements unless I know I'm going to win, ships are too expensive to risk, as are some troop types like artillery and such so I use my navies as mobile artillery batteries for land battles a lot more than actual fighting

Tried looking online and couldn't easily find any definitive information, but which ship of the 2 in the title is better for providing fire support in terms of accuracy or shells fired?

aient the diffrence more a forward huge front cannon or side ship, imo Forward cannon is better, you are harder to hit the broadside ships. ( sorry i forget those ship names fast to what each type do. )

IIRC I think the Kaiyo Maru is better for fire support, since it has more large guns. More guns and ships in a fleet = more shells per barrage.

The Kotetsu is better for ship to ship fighting, since it has that forward cannon and the gatling guns can be surprisingly devastating against enemy crew. I actually really liked taking at least one kotetsu per fleet so it could lead the line into battle.

kotetsu is the japanese ironclad, 9 guns, equipped with gatling guns for use at close range also
kaiyu maru is the 26 gun frigate

I just did both to be safe in the end lol
my economy was faltering slightly at the time so I built 6 kotetsu and then 3 kaiyu maru armoured after taking 3 or 4 high value enemy settlements
warrior is OP as ♥♥♥♥ and being british myself I gotta say i love that lmao

6 kotetsu and 3 kaiyu marus in the same fleet? Yikes that sounds expensive. My fleet comp was usually one Kotetsu, one Roanoke or L'ocean, two Kaiyo Maru, four Kasuga, and two torp boats. Since ships in FotS are incredibly expensive to build and maintain, this comp is a pretty good compromise of firepower and cost, allowing me to field more fleets and defend more ports simultaniously. Since trade is so important to maintaining income, it's pretty important to keep your trade routes clear and ports defended. You can only do that with a lot of ships.

Yeah, the Warrior is an incredible ship. It's also mindbogglingly expensive, costing 18k to recruit and 2250 to maintain each turn. That's one of the main reasons why I don't take it, and usually go with the Roanoke (or l'ocean if I'm doing a shogunate run) instead. For the price of one Warrior, I can recruit two Roanokes and for the upkeep of one Warrior I can maintain three.

I'm sure someone would make the argument that the Roanoke has far less guns, but it's still an ironclad and the AI usually doesn't field anything that it can't deal with. The only real threat it'd ever have to face is a Warrior-class, and that's what my torp boats are for. Two well placed torps can usually sink a Warrior, quickly sending 18k under the waves for the cost of a mere couple thousand koku.

I pad out the rest of my fleet with Kasugas because they're have a surprising number of heavy guns for the class and cost. For the price of 1950 koku, you get a fast punchy gun platform that can follow behind the your heavy ships, then flank around the sides once the "knife fight" part of the sea battle begins. A small flotilla of Kasugas firing into the stern of any ship with explosive or AP shells will absolutely ruin its day.

Awesome
And yeah its real expensive lol but with no units I'd be making somewhere along the lines of 30 grand per turn so i can afford it

There's just something about attacking a castle with 5 of the biggest naval bombardments going then using your own artillery to mop up the survivors before sending in the dismounted sabre cavalry lol
