After all, even a peasant at the top can defeat a tired samurai who has to climb up a mountain.
I like to train units in Smithing Provinces with Armor upgrade, and then train them in the Dojo for a +2 attack as well. Naginata units are trained at the Weapon Smith Province.
I find Yari Samurai to be less useful than Naginata and Katana teams, so I generally only have 1 or 2 (If that) in an army, mostly for their speed advantage for flanking or charging gun units, and their lower vunerablity to other spear units.
Even after all these years, I still manage to occasionally lose track of my cavalry, and then unless I catch it, they often get speared. -_-
