Ugh, the obama clan on hard. I HATE IT!!!
As if playing the tsu on hard isn't hard enough. That obama clan almost seems scripted to make staying alive impossible. Any tips?

I don't remember anything specifically for Obama. It can get harder though, I have won a legendary long Tsu campaign, talk about difficult. I think it was the hardest tw campaign i ever played and I have thousands of hours literally. Sorry you reminded me of it.

One thing I would be certain to utilize is your agents, i forget i think its shinshigumi for shogunates and ishin ishin for emperor, they are very important for central clans like Tsu and Obama.

You might be able to somewhat rush RD and not worry about navy so much once you have a bunch of allied AI. Use said shinshigumi to incite revolts on any allied lands you want and take them.

In the beginning you might want to sell military access or do whatever you can to get extra money for troops. for friendly neighbors its 1500 koku for 5 turns, 3k for 10, 6k for 20, never sell it to them indefintely. If they are a really big rich clan they will pay up to 12k koku for 20 turns of military access is the most I've ever got. (those numbers work on legendary)

You can also declare war on weak 1 province clans that are about to die anyways and make them your vassal. It helps with a few turns of income and even when they die you keep the honor, which helps reduce resistance, which is that much more important at high difficulties. But that is more of a general tip.

You can also abuse heroic victories if you are really good in battle and the more honor you can farm = the more you can loot :) I've had games where i looted 4 times and still had 6 honor ;) (vassals +3, personal honor +3, heroic victories +3 technologies + 1, retainers +1) so technically you could potentially loot even more and still have 6 honor. Its possible i think to get 2 retainers that do it as well. I might even be forgetting something.

Speaking of which, try to level up your generals fast, even if its small battles. split extra generals out to have their own army (even if it is just them) for extra xp.

also you can also play coop campaigns to try and learn. Its how I got better and learned years ago, now I enjoy playing with newer players and pushing them to play on levels they aren't comfortable at, which i just stick to my usual.

I actually love obama as a hard-legendary player because of the reduction cost/upkeep of ground units. I recently won an obama campaign on hard. The idea is to trust that no matter the ally until realm divide hits, and even after it as clans switch allegiance, assume everyone is your enemy. Allies will stab you in the back and enemies will send stack after stack. Try to get to line infantry and cannons, especially cannons, asap. Once you have those and get a few line infantry in every province to defend, the enemy cannot defeat you with a single stack. I was even able to win defending against 2 stacks with half a stack, with the help of naval bombardments. Oh yeah get a big fleet asap as well to help you along the coasts

The key to winning anything on hard or above is to use your superior battle tactics to gain the upper hand. The AI will send stack after stack, that will never stop. The only way to win is to win the battles, which is what TW games are about. Improve your battle tactics, get some levy and line infantry as defenders, and yoj can defend and win against anything the AI throw at you.

The specifics of winning a campaign is for you to decide, so I won't tell you the step-to-step way as my playstyle differs from yours and you should develop and improve upon your own style, which will eventually give you a competitive advantage in multiplayer and all other TW games, as it did for me. So just practice more battles, fight more battles, and learn to win battles that are 75% against you on the balance bar, which is what I do in 50% of my battles. Learn strats. Develop tacts. And beat the AI to a pulp

The problem is there are no allies. I have to make trade agreements instantly or else they all declare war on me in a matter of turns. And There aren't any small nations to hit in time because I simply can't do that before there are mini empires. The main problem is that the first 20 or so turns are almost unavoidable. No matter what I do obama declares war and conqueres omi right after I take it, making taking omi detremental. But when they take omi and I feel like I have a few turns to set up they have three armies wating to gut me in a few turns. I tried so many different set ups and strategies but it always ends up the same. I can even hold off the others fine, but obama always seems to get 3 armies of line infantry and cannons before I can past the stage of affording line infantry. Every single time

No need for more funds for more armies if you can out-manuvre your opponent with levy units. And if you just use a stack of line infantry accompanied by some spear levi you will win every battle

that doesn't work when they have two armies. Spear levi... have you even played this game? they are quite literally useless for anything more then dying
