Can someone explain "dishonoring treaties"?
I'm playing the Tokugawa and i'm allies with both the Hojo and Takeda. Hojo and Takeda broke alliances with each other and went to war, i was not asked to pick sides, and i'm still allies with both of them. I checked diplomacy and my relationship with the Hojo is unfriendly and i'm guessing it's because i have -99 for breaking treaties (i double checked, it's not alliance with enemy clan)...which i didn't do by the way, they ended things with Takeda not me. My relationship with Takeda is still peachy and i only have -25 for breaking treaties.

How exactly does MY relationship sour with a clan who broke relations with someone else? It makes no sense.

Collateral damage. ;)

An alliance is usually made to ensure that if one person goes to war, they go to war with the help of others. As you weren't prompted to break an alliance and go to war, the AI probably saw that as a decline to assist in the war. This, of course, pisses off the AI.

I'm just assuming this of course.

On another note, was Takeda the aggressor?

I have no idea who was the aggressor. I ended turn and got a thing that said Takeda and Hojo were at war with each other. Maybe they went to war and neither called for allies.

As for you explaination on the AI...seems plausible enough to me.

It gets worse. The OP's example is rare and it usually doesn't happen. But let's say your neigbhbor revoked military acess to their area for you. Well, the treaty is dishonored and since relations are bilateral instead of one way, relation between the clans worsen. They might hate you enough that they revoke their trade agreement with you. Furious at the worsened relations between the clans, they might declare war.

yeah its kinda annoying how you can be playing normally, then your relationships with other clans break down for absolutely no reason.
Playing as shimazu, and other clans just kept on ending trade agreements due to relationships getting worse, when I had no interaction with them other than them ending my trade agreements every couple of turns.

Yeah that definitely pisses me off when out of nowhere the AI cancels trade agreements.

Sometimes they are forced to cancel trade agreements with you by other clan.

That i can understand, i have done that through diplomacy, i'm talking the times where you have trade agreements, next turn they cancel, and the next turn they want trade again.

I've never met this situation.

its kinda funny how often they break trade agreements for no reason, but its pretty hard for you to make them break trade agreements with others.

It's because the higher the difficulty the more the ai prioritizes the player as the prime threat.

If you play on Easy or Normal, the ai will treat your clan more like another ai clan.
