You don't own Shogun 2, you own FOTS. As a result you can only run FOTS, S2 and ROTS are grey'd out in the menu for a reason, because you don't own them. Buy them, activate the key and viola, they'll show up in the menu.
due to a rather stupid desicion on Creative assembly or Sega's part Fall of the Samurai is a stand alone game, however it also takes up the same location as Shogun 2 vanilla. the only way to fix it if you got Fall first is to uninstall Fall and install Vanilla Shogun 2.
Those who serve this "more likely explanation" don't have experienced the problem by themselves.
Fact is :
- When you purchase Shogun 2, Steam installs FOTS on your comp.
- When you try to purchase Shogun 2 (again) Steam says that you HAVE it already installed.
- When you try to purchase a DLC (e.g. Rise of the Samourais), Steam says that you cannot get it because you DONT HAVE Shogun 2 installed.
That is a simply a contradiction, a non-sense, a mess, an ISSUE.
That is why so many people are complaining about it, including me.
In fact there are three or four more of them started just today.
Plenty of people over the years have resolved this by buying what they don't own regardless what the store says and activating the key and getting it to work.
Elect to try this or don't makes zero difference to me. You're just part of the regular wave of mouthbreathers who pop into this steam forum during every sale pointing out this same glitch as if complaining in an un-moderated un-observed steam forum accomplished anything.
Sorry for the troubles. It is just that such mess sounds unbelievable.
Hopefully there will be some decent company to compete with Steam in the future...
