Playing in Japanese Language?

I right clicked on the game in my steam library and went to the language options and saw that Japanese was available. When I select it the game does a quick update, but then when I try to launch the game I just get a popup saying:

"Some of your changes will not take effect until the next time Total War: Shogun 2 is run. Total War: Shogun 2 will now quit. Please relaunch the game to use your new settings."

No matter how many times I relaunch the game it still gives me this popup and I can't play. Does anyone know why this is? If there is an option in the settings to choose Japanese language then why can't I launch the game in Japanese? It still boots up when I select English, so it doesn't look like it's a problem with the whole game...

Did it just now. It said all files were successfuly verified. I still can't launch the game in Japanese, I'm getting the same popup message. I even tried restarting everything (steam etc.) and no luck.

I take it you've tried restarting PC already.

Have you tried swapping language back to see if you at least can run it in English or whatever you language was?

Yep, like I said in the op it works fine if I switch the language back to English.

Did you completely close the game and Launcher?

Yes I did. I even rebooted Steam and the computer.

maybe your computer can not speak in japanise ?

いいえ, my computer can handle 日本語 just fine normally.

What is the non-unicode locale for your pc?

If you are on Windows it will be under:
control panel -> region -> administrative

Japanese isn't listed on the store page under supported languages, so I'm pretty sure the game hasn't actually been localised into Japanese. On my languages tab for the game, it only shows the 8 languages shown on the store page, perhaps its showing Japanese for you because its taking it from your windows settings somehow, (since you seem to be setup for dual language input) even though the game hasn't been designed to work in Japanese.

Still, hope I'm wrong and there's a mod or something, I'd like to see it all in kanji ! :]

I'm on Mac actually, sorry but I'm not sure how to check that. My computer was purchased in the US if that makes a difference...

Hm, that's an idea. I do have Japanese and English input set up for typing. Like you I do hope there's some way to play in Japanese though.

As far as I know, there is no Japanese version of Shougun II.
On TWCenter, I've once read about a Japanese text mod translating the names into nihongo, but I don't know if it is still available.

Just checked and the others are correct. Shogun 2 doesn't have a Japanese version.

I actually have the file for this, but I was unsure how to install it. I opened a thread here but nobody seemed to know. Would you have any idea where to install the .pack file from that mod? It's not total Japanese, but at least there is more Japanese dialogue so it's something. :)
