To get both golden attack and golden defense (forgot what its called) what is it? I only recruit from certain provinces like Yale and Harvard.

Training Camp -> Armoury
Blacksmith -> Weaponsmith

or

Training Camp -> Jujitsu Dojo
Blacksmith -> Armourer

I prefer to go full Armor. Attack increases with experience armor doesn't. Full Armor upgrade Nagi Sams will tank arrows all day.

You can stack both with best attack and armor. But I forgot the order it has to be in and takes like 20 turns to correct. Waste of time and money to go back and correct.

I only recruit samurai katanas and nodochis and naginatas from the blacksmith resource provinces. And I only recruit bows and matchlock or missle units from provinces with the bow accuracy upgrades combined with training camp/armourer upgrade. YALE AND HARVARD... xD

Recruit your archers from provinces like Hoki (settlements that have the Artisian building and upgrade it to a Master Bowmaker) combined with the training camp upgrade Armourer to get the best markmanship out of your archers or missle units.

Recruit samurais (katanas, nodochi, naginata, yari samurai, hero units even cav if you want) from provinces like Bizen and upgrade it to a Master Weaponsmith or Master Armourer combined with the training camp upgrade with either attack upgrade or defense upgrade. I forgot the order it goes in but you should have the golden attack (tier 3 attack) or and golden defense (tier 3 defense) or whatever its called.

You dont need to put a barracks in every province. Not every state/province on Japan is the same thats like trying to farm in every state in the USA including the desert regions when these areas werent meant for farming. Each region has its unique ability to benefit the Hattori empire.

I have some of the best samurai on Japan doing it like this. We were ready to take over all of Asia and work towards Europe.

Going to nitpick a bit. Armorer upgrades provide improved armor which is different from defense skill. Defense skill only helps in melee fights. Armor helps in melee and against arrows.

Also you need to build a hunter's lodge camp upgrade to get improved accuracy not Armorer. Strangely enough bowmaker upgrades give improved accuracy to gunpowder units as well.

Well just say Jack Welch is an inspiration to people like me. He has that reputation amongst people who worked at GE that hated his guts because he kept firing/laying off everyone below him. Its like that in the military too with high ranking officers they dont care about the people below them when it comes to management like this for performance or budget cuts and so on. Just loaded up another game from a previous Total War save as Hattori. We cant get Exceptional melee and Exceptional armour its in FOTS I forgot. Superior melee and Superior armour is as far as we can go. I might start a game up in FOTS after I get this Hattori game set.

Full Attack can be a good idea.
my Golden Attack (+5) Bow Ashigaru is the one responsible for those dead bodies of enemies trying to climb the walls.

Yari Samurai also benefit from Full Attack,since they have 8 Defense,giving them +5 Attack(11 Attack,and 8 Defense),will make them able beat Golden Armor Naginata Samurai.

I think a fully upgraded accuracy bow units would be more beneficial in siege. Once they enemy is close to getting over the wall, pull em back and let Yari wall or your Naginata Sams deal with the leftovers.

Let's see,
-Yari Sams with full attack upgrades. 8 Melee Defense+5 Armor=13 total melee defense and 12 attack (+6 from Master Weaponsmith and Jiujitsu Camp).
-Naginata Sams with full armor upgrades. 6 Melee Defense+14 Armor (+5 armor from Master Armorsmith and Armoury Camp)=20 total melee defense and 9 melee attack. I highly doubt that Yaris will win out in this fight.

What's more, battles don't happen in the vacuum, the arrows are flying, cav is flanking, units get surrounded. Nagi Samurai will have the staying power in melee for me to execute a good flank that causes a chain rout. Because Nagi Samurai are so survivable, they will gain veterancy much quicker because there is less experience dilution.

Yeah I might try stacking the armour upgrades instead. I dont know yet. I dont use cavalry for my garrison units and I hate fighting off armies stacked with archers. Still in the process of working on economy and capturing more settlements.

How does armour actually work in a melee fight?

Flanking yari sam with cav doesn't work, they can turn around and kill them easily and they take almost no charge damage.
