I don't think it takes more food because FOTS doesn't have the food thing like the plain game.
Even if it's only +1 to repression, there has to be a benefit to having saved a build slot.
There are even 2 technologies that directly affect repression, 1 gives +2 happiness, the other +2 repression. There might even be another one that gives +1 happiness iirc. There is literally almost no reason to have more than 1 or 2 police stations (only so you can get a couple agents or build special units like kyoto police)
I kinda already figured i'd only use police stations for the agent. The high honor factor is good (i always try and play high honor anyway) but does that really do anything for repression? At least in FOTS all the issues i have are from modernization, i don't think high honor counters that.
I'll have to check those technologies, thanks for the tip.
I've even seen some really good players intentially let the rebels spawn and kill them to level up all their generals and then you can get the military crackdown, but that is probably not what you are looking for.
There is actually an event that makes building castles cheaper all around for like 12 turns, it is really really good, i forget which decision to take to possibly get it. Also there are technologies that make castle building cheaper, I usually upgrade all my forts at least once (for that +2 repression mostly), usually get a few castles and citadels.
Interesting, i'll definitely have to keep my eyes open for honor boosts.
Well, since we're talking repression. Got any tips for keeping Modernization down? One i hear a lot is "spam ninja dojos". While that sounds good theoretically, if i'm already going for economy with Inns and Cottages that would mean i would need to expand my city (which increase modernization) for another builting slot...and both costs money.
I actually do use traditional dojo's a lot, but only because I am RP'ing. A friend and I play as shogunate's and use traditional units only (no guns except musket kachi, kyoto police, wooden cannons, and ships), and limit ourselves to develoment 2... on legendary. Its a real pain in the ass, but it can be done if you work together and are just a beast in the battles.
There really isn't any good reason to delay modernization except to RP though. Sure you get more unhappiness, but you also research faster and get more gold by then too. One or two techs can completley mitigate the unhappiness from modernization.
Another pro tip, get as many geisha as you can, give them all the upgrade that gives +10% wealth to all economic buildings, it stacks, so you can actually get +50% boost to economic buildings with 5 of them with that promotion, it is level 5 though...
I've heard of people playing "limited" to traditional units, no modernization, etc. that's pretty intense, i couldn't do that.
I'm playing Saga and i'm slowly taking Kyushu (i think i only have 3 regions left). There are 3 regions that have fertile/very fertile farms and i've been trying to squeeze every drop of coin i can and i've got Geisha's in each town. If the 10% to wealth thing is a perk i haven't seen it yet, and if it's one of those other things (can't think of the term off hand) i haven't had it yet.
Found it thanks! Too bad i have to wait until they level up...
