I enjoy the game solo most of the time, I also enjoy grouping up when I can. There is a ton to do solo, but grouping up every now and then is good too.
Just wondering if you have played games like Skyrim, Kingdom of Amalur, Dragon's Dogma, Assassin's Creed Odyssey? All of these and many more are single player with huge open world that will give you hundreds of hours of entertaining and varied gameplay.
Could you do a few examples for interested parties?
I'll try to answer the question about builds for solo play. Animal Handling would be my top pick, Pets, can tank, damage, even provide a little bit of support to you. Each kind of pet has a special trick, and you can summon them as needed for the combat at hand.
Shield is good for survivability, Mentalism you can balance attack and healing. Those three can be you secondary skill, and you can use most other skills as you main weapon skill whichever you like most. I am using Priest on one character, Fire Mage and Knife on two others.
The ability to solo a ton of content is right up my alley. I don't mind grouping one bit but those times when its tough to get a party, either due to time of day/less players doing a particular piece of content, or when I just feel like seeing how much of a challenge I can handle solo, it's nice to know the option to solo is there.
Gonna check out the demo and hopefully snipe the game afterward.
Im sort of itching hard for a game where i just solo grind, progress, and find cool loot. Im not as interested in crafting and housing, but might partake. I probably wouldnt be interested in following a linear questline however.
What kind of character building/progression exists?
How is the mob loot and gear progression?
Basically im looking for chill everquest style farming without the hard wall of required grouping to continue.
You can leave quests on your quest log, so you can do what you want. There might be a few quests that have like a follow up quest or 2, but mostly you can pick up new quests when you meet new NPCs and get more quests when you befriend them.
There are currently 17 combat skill, with one additional race specific one for Fairies. There are also 8 beast forms, that act as classes, with an additional combat skill that is animal specific. You have 2 combat skills active at a time, you can mix and match you skills. They are broken down into mainly right hand, left hand and no hand skills. You can learn most skills and build them all to the max level of around 80, The level cap is going to be raised to 100 levels at some point in the future. You also get bonus levels as perks from reach particular levels in some skills, So the final total level can be as high as 125.
Not sure how I feel about mob loot and gear progression. My armour is mostly crafted, I'm happy with my looted Tricky Staff. I know some of my gear on one character, was only possible to get because the highest level players where nice enough to include me in a group adventure.
Probably the best thing is to try out the free demo on the store page, you can give a bunch of skills a try up to level 15. Also, you can even get off the starter island without following the quest line there. :)
It is only an economic wipe, you keep your skill progress and learning. It does mean you will have to re-gear, and re-favour the NPCs, but the wipe is a long way off yet. So to get the best gifts from the NPCs this season. it makes sense to build favour now. And you will need councils for unlocking the skill levels, which will be added before launch.
