Need for Online Multiplayer
So i was just talking with a friend,we both have Sonic The Hedgehog 2,Streets of Rage and other oldschool games in our libraries and we wanted to play a multiplayer game but we actually can't..Why there isn't such an option on this Emulator over here?
It would do such a huge success..since lots of us grew up playing these games and right now most games have online multiplayer,it would honor us to be able to play them again with our friends that live aboard, and we'd buy most of the games that are in the bundle just because of that.

Has anyone ever added online two-player for emulated games before?
The one I can think of right now is Final Fight on PS3/Xbox 360. Also, Double Dragon Trilogy and Meta Slug here on Steam

There were also some Sega classics like Sonic 2 on the PS3 when PS Plus first came about and it had online and trophies. Not to mention some Model 2 games on 360 and I think PSN which also included online multiplayer. So no excuse really for them not to include these features for us.

Yeah, I've played Streets of Rage II online on PS3 when I think about it. Those releases possibly relied on some libraries that wouldn't be available here, but at least it would be possible.
Though IIRC those released cost a fair bit more than these Steam ones.

+1,online please!

Perhaps an "easy" way would be making one of the players the host of the online game. I don't see Sega getting servers for this, honestly.

Is there any emulator (like Kega) that allows online multiplayer somehow?

I know there are easy and very cheap ways to add online multiplayer options.

I hope they consider this idea.

These were all made in the late '80s and early 90's .......for consoles before the internet was common everywhere.

Even then, Atari Vault allows you to play every multiplayer game online, and there's no lag or anything whatsoever.

So no, that's not an excuse.

Those are much simpler games, though. If this was made, I would hardly expect it to be lag free. The games aren't programmed with online in mind, and not even games that are don't suffer from lag.

This would be an awesome feature if added. Also would it be possible to have online leaderboards for games scores?

Listen just use "Kega Fusion" it's a emulator that runs SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis games and has netplay funtionality! So basically there is your answer :D

I'd be wise to delete the comment. Steam has a strict code about advertising what's considered stolen content.

Online multiplayer for a game released before the internet...

You see...guys...this is harder than it would appear to be. I've played on netplay services before. These games (2-D backgrounds with minimal animation, animated sprites) were not designed with the current state of graphics processing and audiovisual synchronization in mind.

Mind you, it was fun! But the experience suffers greatly when the client is trying to decide which side of the transmission should hear this beat of the music next (skips and repeats of sections of music are particularly annoying to listen to), or if it disconnects or swaps the players' controls by accident?

Sega doesn't want to fiddly fart around, they don't want to release something that isn't at least capable of reproducing the experience of playing 2 player back in the 90s on your MegaDrive/Genesis.

They're taking their time, massing funds and people, and trying to do it right, is my wager. But they can't just go blabbing about any old thing they're planning, naturally.

It's really simple, there are emulators that allow this nowadays, like the Kaillera, SEGA would only have to implement this on their emulator, wouldn't even use servers, because it is point to point: one player creates a room, other join in with his IP or a implemented feature of "play with a friend". Only would have to increase the quality of the connection, Kailera sucks on instability...

Really Simple indeed.

Well, see, though, they can't just dole out that kind of control to each user. Notice with the Steam Workshop they just released; they do a verification check, at least, that it is an actual Mega Drive rom.

How does Sega ensure that people are playing through their servers only Genesis/MegaDrive Classics Hub? How do they keep spambots out? How do they regulate their online playing community in cases of abuse, or malfunction?

These things have to be planned and known and budgeted for first.
