Shining Force - No sound, and game crashing issues
As the title says, I'm currently having a few issues with Shining Force right now. When I first noticed I had no sound, I immediately started trying to figure out what was wrong, and how to fix it. Here is what I've tried so far:

- Saving the game. I've attempted to use a priest to save the game so that I could reload the game from scratch. Unfortunately not only did this NOT work(it crashes every time I've attempted to save it), it corrupted/deleted my previous save file in the process(I still have the save states and whatnot though). I know this because I went through the trouble of creating an entirely new save, and then got to the load screen only to find my original save gone. It's worth noting that when I created a new save, the sound was working. But it doesn't work when I go back to my original save.

- Opening treasure chests. I figured that attempting to open a treasure chest might reset the sound or something. But of course, it doesn't want to, and thus it crashes each time.

- Turning the sound OFF. While I like having sound, I decided that I didn't necessarily need it to beat the game. So I turned it off in the options menu. It didn't work, unfortunately, as the game still crashes when I attempt to save or open a treasure chest.

And a couple of other things that didn't work, but aren't important enough to mention. Anyways, I'm pretty much at my wits end. I can't really continue the game -- or rather, I don't want to -- because I figure what's the point? Creating a new save would be a waste of time since this could just happen again, and while it may be possible to continue, I don't know if I'll actually be able to finish it with this issue(since there may be a point later on where I NEED to open a chest or something like that -- I don't know since it's my first time playing).

So, I'm wondering... has anyone else experienced this, or had experience helping someone with it, and if so... what advice do you have for me? I want to finish the game, especially since it was a birthday gift from someone.

Any help is appreciated.

The same thing happened to me in Shining Force 1 months ago. I saved the game at the last chapter and everytime I load the game there is no sound. If I beat or leave said battle to go to the priest to save or revive a character, the game freezes indefinitely.

Sadly, I never found a fix for this and I understand how frustrating it is, especially for a great game like this one. You are not the only one.

Yeah, I figured as much. I ended up starting over despite what I had said before. I do like it a lot, which surprises me because I'm usually pretty harsh when it comes to RPGs. My main interest when playing any RPG is a good story/characters, and honestly this game really doesn't have much of a story at all, and the characters barely interact with you. But it's still surprisingly fun despite that. It also helps that battles are strategic/difficult enough to make you think, but relaxing in that you don't have to worry about losing anything other than money.

Anyways, I'm being more careful this time. I'm making multiple saves, and making sure to check that the sound is working correctly at all times. The sound once glitched and changed to something completely different(I'm assuming it was a sound track from another game in the collection). I solved that problem by simply reloading the savestate that I had, since I hadn't saved it with that soundtrack in place yet.

For anyone out there worried about this happening to you, I think the best way to avoid it may be to always be listening to the ingame soundtrack while playing. If it goes away or changes to something that it shouldn't have for any reason, immediately load up an older save(or savestate). Also, you may want to consider only having one game downloaded/installed at a time from the collection(I'm assuming this is possible -- I haven't tried to do it myself). And turn off "auto-pause" in the options menu for the emulator, since that may also be part of the problem. Of course, none of this may work. But it doesn't hurt to try and be careful. >..>

EDIT: And thanks for the response, BTW. I already knew about the other people, but I was hoping it had been solved by now. It sucks that it happened to you as well, man. I hope that it doesn't happen to you if you decide to play again in the future.

I remember playing Shining Force 2 back in the day. I was about 2 hours away from the end of the game. I went to school, came home, powered on the genesis and went to load my save. That damn witch said she didn't remember me. My backup battery had died and I lost months of playing. I've yet to beat the game and it is one of my favorites of all time.
