I'm having some trouble trying to complete this game because the controls feel clumsy. I can't complete the spin-dash properly. Hold down, mash a, let go of down, but it doesn't seem to work. Any help?

You don't need to mash the buttons just gently tap them. The best way to spin dash is just keep tapping the button to keep reving then let go of down. It can take some practice to pull off at first.

I also can't seem to get that working. From the contols listed, there seems no possible way to do it on keyboard?

the cotrols are to walk the arrow keys to jump A and S to crouch S to spindash down arrow key while holding S

Personally, I would not bother with the keyboard for this game. You're better off using some kind of USB controller. If you have an xbox 360 controller, then use that.
