Why does Sega...
Charge so much money for so few games? And even then, Emulators are free and shouldn't be charged any money, only game Roms (and even this is debatable, since at emulation's beginning/dawn no game was ever even marketable, anyway). And even then, they don't even offer the different versions, like Japanese! The worldwide releases of most, if not ALL games, was seriously undergone censorship, from hiding the puffing cigar of Mr.X in Streets of rage 2 and his glass of wine, to covering more skin of Blaze and female enemies in Streets of rage 1 to even CHANGING THE ENTIRE SCENARIO AND IN-GAME CHARACTERS completely, effectively making the game a completely new/different one, much like Streets of rage 3, it's story and the general/war changed, as well as Ash removed from both enemy boss and playable character positions.

Or probotectors, turning the players and enemies into robots...

Since you charge so much money for games almost 3 decades old and you price each one of them expensively too, at least you should have the decency to at least offer the same content, others do for free. And since they are by no means cheap, the negligence to add a new feature that all players ask for, like online multiplayer support and/or achievements, is somehow quite remarkable; doubly so, since consoles already got "upgrades" like that.

I really, really wonder who would buy emulators, though... Especially old timers who lived up-close the rise and hammering/blackmailing of MAME and them turning into corporate underdogs, destroying their own work on trial orders and copyrights threats (under the pretense of changing and upgrading the emulator, through which they break compatibility of game roms)...

@Drambuie
I think you get the point now. Within the week this discussion board will be taken down for breaking community guidelines pertaining to discussion of piracy, so you should probably take screenshots of this so as not to forget. I hope you find peace with the fact that you have previously complained about non-issues, and that the solution is just to deal with the minimal features not provided on this platform (and can/should just purchase it on other platforms if that's the case) and the very insignificant and fair price tags on the games.
Have a good weekend, and I hope you were able to get Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Gunstar Heroes for free through the Make War Not Love promotion, I truly hope you didn't completely miss it because you were spending so much time on this discussion board.

Thanks, but i own them already as roms. With a better emulator, Kega Fusion, which can emulate all Sega systems of old through one and the same, program. I own the Japanese, uncensored version with english subtitles and golden axe trilogy, arcade Golden Axe on MAME, even the beat em up fighting (golden axe the duel). I hope you will get to have the option to buy them here for 5$ each (or even more expensive), but i highly doubt it, because "copyrights". Until then, enjoy your free pieces while i enjoy the entire, complete collection. Oh and i almost forgot. Patents, through law, have a 30 years old expiration date. I really wonder how you find it legit to pay for an expired product and even enjoy and preach the fact. I guess the "shut up and take my money" has turned everyone into zombies, without even inspecting what the hell they are getting and in what state it is... Or compare it against its iteration in other media/consoles/etc. Ideal (zombie) customer is always right/king.

It's a bit of a stretch to consider pirating something as "owning it". By that logic you already own everything in the world. >_>

Where do you get this nonsense? That's not how copyright law works, and a patent is something different altogether.

There is a part of the law that dictates that the developer of a game can potentially regain the rights to it from a publisher after 35 years, but that doesn't mean it's free for everyone, just that the developer can reacquire the rights. The copyright itself will remain valid for at least 70 years, and quite possibly longer.

The emulator they use is completely inferior in every way. Why does SEGA deserve money when they put in almost zero effort.

And not being able to have kenji text appear on screen means the game is useless.

Didn't you read what i wrote above? It is not the language, but game content! Most Genesis games have undergone CENSORSHIP in worldwide release (worst example is Streets of Rage 3, search about it, or Probotectors which isn't even available for buying here). Others have changed their entire story or in-game characters, being like a totally different game!

In emulation you can use programs to turn japanese roms into english versions with english subtitles. Here you pay and you cannot even have something simple and easy like that.

Let's say they are not expensive. (But for 30 years old games they ARE) It is outrageous to pay for something, of which a free version has a ton more features and content. It is also outrageous to pay for something that on pc they don't give it new features such as online coop or vs, but in consoles they do. Show me where i am mistaken in that logic. Shouldn't a product have MORE features, instead of less, when you pay for it? Hell, even it gifted is inferior to an emulated game not purchased here (or anywhere else)...

Dude, buy the games one steam or wherever else (maybe you even own the originals) and then "pirate" the emulated versions and you will have both paid for the games and own the versions you so desire, why are you complaining? You can even add shortcuts to your emulated games to steam and it will say "playing ***" on your profile.

How so? It works without error, it recognizes my drivers, I'm not getting any odd slowdowns. It also has up to five save states per game. The only improvement I could see is a drop-down in the launcher.

Problem? Didn't think so.

First of all, you own nothing. You don't own those ROMs, you pirated them. PIracy is not owning, it's stealing.
Second, patents work for CONSOLES. Sega Mega Drive's patent expiring means that the CONSOLE can now be manufactured by everyone - or emulated and it's perfectly legal as long as you actually own the games. GAMES, on the other hand, don't have patents, they have copyrights and the copyrights for those games haven't expired. You're no "free man among zombies", you're just a petulant child who likes to talk big about things he doesn't understand.

I was on one last week that a bunch of people advocated piracy on, it's not that big of a deal, I just know that it got shut down. Doesn't make a difference to me if this one gets shut down, just thought I'd throw it out there so that some people might put a filter on. They clearly care as much as I do, though.

You put that beautifully, this person has been putting up so much misinformation to justify piracy. It disgusts me. I get it - money doesn't grow on trees. I don't WANT things to cost me money. But it's the principle of the thing. SEGA produced something, and we have to pay for that product. Don't be self-righteous because you DISCOVERED some mystical workaround that allows you to get it for free. Good Sumaritans who pay for it get slammed because of people like that, don't act like a superhero or like you're more enlightened than everyone else - you're not.

I think Sega needs to release a USB-Genesis cartridge reader in cooperation with the devs of one of the bigger emulators, that would not only be an amazing legal emulator but also give pirates no delusions of being within rights.

That would service a very small market. It sounds like an awesome idea. But how many people do you think could make use of a peripheral like that?

Fair enough, but I could see it working if Sega were simply to endorse some small group's project and let them handle the actual project.

Technically SEGA is not charging you for the emulator, when you buy a SEGA Genesis & Megadrive Classics title the emulator comes with it.

Besides, what you are doing is illegal. Just because it's easy to download ROMs and run them on an emulator without getting caught, doesn't mean it's right. I'm glad SEGA is giving us a chance to buy and play some of their old classics here on Steam. Other companies should follow suit, really, I wish more oldschool games were available here.

I think it would be great if at some point, companies took their old games they knew they weren't going to touch and give people the go-ahead for those specific games.
