I think you get the point now. Within the week this discussion board will be taken down for breaking community guidelines pertaining to discussion of piracy, so you should probably take screenshots of this so as not to forget. I hope you find peace with the fact that you have previously complained about non-issues, and that the solution is just to deal with the minimal features not provided on this platform (and can/should just purchase it on other platforms if that's the case) and the very insignificant and fair price tags on the games.
Have a good weekend, and I hope you were able to get Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Gunstar Heroes for free through the Make War Not Love promotion, I truly hope you didn't completely miss it because you were spending so much time on this discussion board.
Thanks, but i own them already as roms. With a better emulator, Kega Fusion, which can emulate all Sega systems of old through one and the same, program. I own the Japanese, uncensored version with english subtitles and golden axe trilogy, arcade Golden Axe on MAME, even the beat em up fighting (golden axe the duel). I hope you will get to have the option to buy them here for 5$ each (or even more expensive), but i highly doubt it, because "copyrights". Until then, enjoy your free pieces while i enjoy the entire, complete collection. Oh and i almost forgot. Patents, through law, have a 30 years old expiration date. I really wonder how you find it legit to pay for an expired product and even enjoy and preach the fact. I guess the "shut up and take my money" has turned everyone into zombies, without even inspecting what the hell they are getting and in what state it is... Or compare it against its iteration in other media/consoles/etc. Ideal (zombie) customer is always right/king.
Where do you get this nonsense? That's not how copyright law works, and a patent is something different altogether.
There is a part of the law that dictates that the developer of a game can potentially regain the rights to it from a publisher after 35 years, but that doesn't mean it's free for everyone, just that the developer can reacquire the rights. The copyright itself will remain valid for at least 70 years, and quite possibly longer.
Dude, buy the games one steam or wherever else (maybe you even own the originals) and then "pirate" the emulated versions and you will have both paid for the games and own the versions you so desire, why are you complaining? You can even add shortcuts to your emulated games to steam and it will say "playing ***" on your profile.
Problem? Didn't think so.
Second, patents work for CONSOLES. Sega Mega Drive's patent expiring means that the CONSOLE can now be manufactured by everyone - or emulated and it's perfectly legal as long as you actually own the games. GAMES, on the other hand, don't have patents, they have copyrights and the copyrights for those games haven't expired. You're no "free man among zombies", you're just a petulant child who likes to talk big about things he doesn't understand.
You put that beautifully, this person has been putting up so much misinformation to justify piracy. It disgusts me. I get it - money doesn't grow on trees. I don't WANT things to cost me money. But it's the principle of the thing. SEGA produced something, and we have to pay for that product. Don't be self-righteous because you DISCOVERED some mystical workaround that allows you to get it for free. Good Sumaritans who pay for it get slammed because of people like that, don't act like a superhero or like you're more enlightened than everyone else - you're not.
Besides, what you are doing is illegal. Just because it's easy to download ROMs and run them on an emulator without getting caught, doesn't mean it's right. I'm glad SEGA is giving us a chance to buy and play some of their old classics here on Steam. Other companies should follow suit, really, I wish more oldschool games were available here.
