This is the Mega Drive/Genesis version of the game, which was a port of the arcade version.
The displaying of "credits" is a bit of a weird holdover, once they're gone - back to the start with you!
The best you can do is increase your initial health bar in the in-game Options menu.
Of course it's the Mega Drive A and C, so you really have to press the corresponding buttons for that.
Not being sarcastic, it's a valuable resource for games where you don't have access to a proper manual.
