Report a translation problem
I think the problem must be because the game in the compilation must be the European PAL version, with the old launcher we had the opposite problem, choppy image and the audio was ok ( I explained it a bit in this post http://steamcommunity.com/app/34270/discussions/0/485622866441793014/ )
and with the new hub the game runs at 60 FPS but that makes the music sound faster than it should too.
The only solution I can think of is to make the Japan NTSC version the default one as that one runs natively at 60Hz and should have no problems.
Other possibel fixes would be to let us choose region in the games or, now that we have workshop, I guess someone could mod in the translated text to the Japaneese version.
Cheers!
the game is in english in its japanese version anyway, so I'm totally ok with playing this way.
Edit: Uh...sorry for double post, how do I actually get this mod to work? I subscribed but the game still sounds like crap.
You have to click on mods then select "Alien Soldier Original 60Hz Japanese Version" which should load the mod.
If your computer isn't the best out there then it may sound kinda crackly at first but it will go away after a few seconds (then again the music always did have a scratchy sound to it to begin with.)
Still nice to play Aliens Soldier at 60 fps though.
Which doesn't makes sense, using the simple launcher plays the music properly and without distortion, so the hub frontend is to blame. Made three recordings in WAV format to give the best audio quality possible.
Given that I have
Core i5 3570
8 GB DDR3 SDRAM
nVidia GTX 660 2GB GDDR5
Two 1 TB HDDs
There's really no excuse for the hub launcher to sound like the way it does, it makes no sense to me at all.
Will update with better links
Edit: Maybe I'll have to record a video.
Also when you run the unmodded game, I noticed that the music returns to regular speed when you fight Rolling Shellshogun (that's like the first boss where the music changes for a bit.) After fighting him the music then returns to being unaturally fast.
*sigh* Sega doesn't care about our issues with these games, even if I made a thread, pointing out how badly this game is, even is I show empiracal evidence via sound and video, it will be for naught. Top that off with other games having off audio compared to real hardware, and I know they can do much better with it.
The simple launcher has good audio, it's just 50 Hz *shudder*
My guess is that Sega doesn't care as much about Alien Soldier having as accurate emulation because it isn't as well known as Gunstar, Streets of Rage, or Sonic.
r.i.p. This is what happens when you love obscure games.... T_T
At least the modded 60Hz version doesn't have too many scratchy moments on my comp. my theory is that we need to adjust our settings bc of how intensive the new Loader is... We shouldn't need a high-end alienware just to play games released 20 years ago.....
That's the problem, it's just...*sigh* I don't even know what settings to use. I might as well give up.
Have you tried lowering the resolution? turned off Vsync? also try turning down TV projection to the absolute minimum. I have no clue what it does when it's on and honestly turning it off seems to improve performance a lot.
Projection is all the way down, I haven't changed the resolution or detail in the hub, vysnc was disabled and it didn't help at all. Yes, the game does run properly at 60 Hz with the mod, but the audio makes my ears bleed >< If only the simple launcher would support mods. Was the audio still distorted?
Cheers!
The mod is a huge step in the right direction, the 50 Hz version being used was a mistake.
