Why are Idiots Uploading Actual Game Roms to the Workshop?
I'm going to be frustrated if workshop supports get's pulled because stupid people keep trying to turn into a rom sharing site via uploading entire games as "mods".

I say this as someone that downloads a lot of roms (mostly rare titles, MAME roms or stuff I already own since I have a HUGE game collection and just sometimes want to play with the extra bells and whistles of emulators) but still knows this ♥♥♥♥ is dumb.

This workshop feels like a weird socio-legal experiment at best. At worst, it's reminded me why I don't bother with internet communities anymore.

The sad part is it's an AWESOME idea to promoding retro-game modding on Steam this way, but the pirated roms are burying the actual mods.

I knew how Ms. Pac-Man functions from experience, so I might be in luck that I never ticked on his subscribe button.

Problem is the tool. Anybody can upload a couple of broken, fake empty .bin files that may contain malware. Because think about it... Why would a pirate delete my comment when it was about its button problems? Why upload something that doesn't work in the first place? I don't know how the next person feels about this but these pirates having a baby amount of hours played and how their comment sections are always empty smells a bit malicious to me... Notice if you look at the recent pirated roms, there are more current subscribers than unique visitors...

ROMs can't have any working malware, so far from experience, due to being confined in being ran by emulators.

Usually it's people who just want to "share cool games with other people" without checking or actually playing or caring, cue yet another reupload of Battletoads.

Unique visitors are counted by the people who open item's page. You can sub to item without opening it's individual page (hover mouse over icon of a item and a button should appear in bottom right).

I was opening this one up in a graphics ripper hoping there was some kind of weird joke or secret but I couldn't find anything.

My premuim mbam will go alert and place bad files into quarantine right after a download is finished on the fly. Still, I would prefer to keep a good eye on what you're subscribing to, or you're going to catch hell for it...

I took the risk into trying this one out:

It's empty. It's a terrain.bin for Sonic 3D Blast which doesn't run. Screen stays pure black. This happened with Puggsy too before the author removed it. Man, that was long ago and the people were tightly mad about it. You can't assume these folks were not doing it for douchei reasons. And they're smart enough to know Sega won't do a thing about it, that's for one.
Wait a minute, did you just mention Puggsy? Boredman DA had a video up on YouTube involving it's Anti Piracy method. TT Games doesn't want us to pirate it, so they have a message for pirates emulating the game. If there was no blank screen, this should happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4T7clIgqaE

Another way of buying Ms. Pac-Man. I'd rather the Arcade version for Current Gen Consoles.

+1 stop the illegal stuff.

Even some of us that DO emulate roms ike to buy the good offical ports/complilations to keep supporting the company when we can.

Especially since this collection supports Steam Workshop and has a cool GUI.

This. I've bought the Streets of Rage Collection on Xbox LIVE Arcade because not only I enjoy Streets of Rage, but M2's port of the collection is really good. Solid, full HD emulation, lots of options, a bunch of extra features, online multiplayer (if you have Xbox LIVE Gold), plus the ability to play different regional versions of each game! They're just overall phenomenal Genesis ports that blows the Backbone Entertainment ones out of the water.

Wot about d3t on this collection?

Old emulator is a lot closer to what we want.
Just came here to say that it's illegal to upload almost... well... anything. Hack that is made by other guy? Illegal. Other region version? Illegal. Hack you made for Rom other than one you have on your PC downloaded from Steam? Illegal. Sega perfectly knew this, they have REAL LAWYERS, unlike you funny guys who didn't bother to read what 'derivative work' means. Chill dudes, if you don't like something - report it.
I use workshop as a way to keep games 'in the cloud', upload dem private and use at any PC I have steam installed hassle-free and automagically. I bet a lot of people use it like
Top mods on workshop are 100% illegal, don't you worry. You can't upload other region translated version, Sega just don't care much (and that's why they added workshop in the first place).

I have a real question: why are idiots keep whinning? Move on with your life, maybe become a real lawyer if you care so much about other people's things.

There's this lovely (free) thing called Google Drive that doesn't ♥♥♥♥ up the workshop with pirated roms. It gives you a whole 15GB of storage which is MORE than enough for Genesis roms.
