sonic the hedgehog 2 online multiplayer
Does sonic the hedgehog 2 have online multiplayer? I would like to be able to play it with my friend and not have to get him over to my house and hook up my Genesis.

Nope, this emulator does not support online multiplayer.

You could try using the Fusion 3.64 emulator. This emulator has online multiplayer and you can use your existing copy of Sonic 2 from Steam to play with your friend, or download any ROM from the internet. Just be aware that there may be significant issues with lag if you both have bad internet connections, or live far away. Unlike most modern games, Fusion can not adjust the game like other games to "fix" errors coming from predicting what will happen in the future and trying to dissipate effects of delay. Fusion simply has to wait until it receives information about the next button presses from the other player, every single frame. Else, the game would desync. This should not be a big problem if you live fairly close, and dealing with a little bit of lag (both input lag and actual game lag) should not be a big worry. There are tutorials on how to set this up optimally on the internet, and in the best scenario you only have a little bit of input lag and occasional hiccups.

so I guess s3k doesn't have online either? My friend and I tried fusion a while ago and it did not work, I couldn't connect to him for some unknown reason and I would've liked steam to handle that for me. :l

and yeah I did port forward, so did he. We know how to use the internet, we did everything right, it just wouldn't work. :l

Sega's emulator of this collection has no online multiplayer, yes. That means that it applies to all games. As said, you could still use other emulator with games that you purchased, but if Fusion doesn't work...

dang. I know the Xbox edition has it, but he does not have an Xbox and I don't want to pay $60.00 for gold just to play it. thanks for letting me know. I will look at that 3.64 emulator Natsumi is talking about.

The ROM is available in the Collection as SONIC2_W.68K in the new launcher, under the "uncompressed ROMs" folder. It won't show up in the file picker in Fusion, but it loads and plays correctly.
