SEGA removed all the original pc ports of the classic sonic games in favour of pushing Sonic Origins down our throats.
Don't like or want to buy Sonic Origins? Too buggy or disappointing, or both?

I fully agree with you and I took the liberty of spending a couple of hours searching for ways to get the original sonic games from the Mega Drive bundle and finally found them for a reasonable price (looking at you, websites that charge £200 for the original ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sonic 2).


Fear not because there exits GameBillet, a game storepage that has the original version of the 'Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Classics Collection' bundle as a CD key for steam and contains all games for it, including all of the classic sonic games such as Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3&K, pinball, etc;

Bare in mind that the current version of that bundle on steam does not contain any of the sonic games that were removed, but on GameBillet you can find it and buy it on that site, it will give you the redeemable key for steam; it worked flawless for me and I'm happy I found it. Only cost me £21.19.

You can also download the .apk of Sonic 1, 2 and CD and use the decomp project for those to get the improved versions on PC for free and completely legal as well.

I wanted to buy the gamebillet version but wasn't sure whether activation the key would give me the sonic games. There's also another one in newegg going on offer for much cheaper but I'm not sure whether it contains the sonic games. The gamebillet one costs 26$ and I've been waiting for it to go on discount but it seems like it won't.

It depends if it's a pre june 2022 version of the classic collection because if its not then it won't have the sonic games. The one on GameBillet has 1, 2, 3&K that and CD as a bonus, which is not included in any version of the usual classic collection bundle for steam, I'm not sure if the one you're looking for does contain CD too but if the product listing is before June of this year then it most definitely will have what you're looking for.

It doesn't state that it contains CD separately or included but try your luck with it, even if you have to get CD separately later down the line, you still got the other mainstream games.

Sonic CD was never part of the Genesis collection (it's a Sega CD game). It was always sold separately as a stand-alone game. It was also not a straight emulation but rather based on the mobile port developed by Christian Whitehead that added features like fullscreen support, choice of US or Japanese soundtracks, and Tails as a playable character.
