Sonic & Knuckles is "Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Episode 2", in essence. They were supposed to be one game originally. And quite frankly, I'm glad they sold JUST the combined game on Steam.

I don't get why every other Sonic collection has the two separate AND combined. It's just kinda redundant and pointless.

Now if only they'd release Knuckles in Sonic 2...

There are a number of differences between Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles that most people wouldn't care about, but it's nice when they give you the option to choose a particular version.
To me the classic part about it is how you could include Knuckles in other Sonic games by inserting the other game cartridge on top of the Sonic & Knucles one. That was High-tech!

In Sonic 3 and Knuckles, you can start on any level you want. On the first level, go to one of those things you hang onto and swing. Press Left , Left , Left,. Right Right Right. Up Up Up. You will hear a Ring Noise if you did it correctly. Pause the game and Press the A button (whatever key you emulated) It will return you to the SEGA screen and then to the title menu. Keep pressing UP on the DPAD until Sound Test is located in the menu. Press Start on Sound Test and it will take you to a level select screen.

Sega took feedback from gamers as the level select in the Standalone Sonic 3 game was a you know what to pull off and only the best perfectionist can pull it off, unless of course you had the game genie that would allow the game to already unlock that code...

Me too i liked the mini boss music from sonic 3. i can't even find it in the sound test was it removed for some reason.

They also have effectively removed Sonic 3's final boss. You fought Eggman at Launch Base 2, then move past Knuckles, then fight Eggman in that missile-looking robot.

After that, you used to fight Eggman one more time, with him in a mech that had two hands, which could grab you and damage you.

But with the games locked-in: instead, that last robot is skipped, and you just watch the Death Egg falling back down, and start the Mushroom Hill Zone.

Edit: Wait...or does it? Come to think of it, I was playing as Tails, and I'm not sure he faces that boss.

has anyone else tryed to crask s3&k
you guys should know that Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are the same game. but were sold split due to Sega missing the deadline.

so, they released sonic 3, and shortly after S&K came.

also, the "lock on" was something used since MSX, that they marketed as revolutionary.

anyway, 2 great games.

Originally, The Hobbit should have been just one movie but in the end they made 3...do we consider it as "one single movie" ? I don't think so.

It's not the same game. You can combine them but they were sold separately (and each one of them were as solid as any other MegaDrive game).

And I really prefer Sonic & Knuckles levels and musics than Sonic 3's. Even the main menu is way cooler. It's sad I have to download a rom to play the game as I originally bought and liked it.

please apologize my english
