Shining force mod / save problem
Hi, anyone has any idea why, when i use a mod for Shining Force i can't save anymore?

By that, i mean that if i save at the church and load back in the game i only got the new game option and i cant use continue. If i try to use the save state its not working on any slots either.

Help me out if you have an idea. Thanks.

I don't known,I believe that the game with and without mod use different saves. So if you was playing without mod,you have to start a new game using the mod but I think that you can solve it rename the save file to math the name of the game with mod.

Tried that already and it changed nothing. Even with the right name (name of the mod or not) as soon as i launch the game with a mod i cant save anymore either by using the regular in game save from the church our the emulator save slots.

Actualy i can save at the church and i hear the music and everything but if i quit and launch the game again there is no saved games. If i press escape and use the emulator slots while a mod is activated, i press save and click the slot (i tried them all by the way), nothing litteraly happen.

Same with Phantasy Star. Am unable to use the savestate or the ingame save.

Is it like that with every mods? I mean... i could understand if saving was not able in games like sonic or street of rage... but in games like Shining Force and Phantasy Star not being able to save is kinda of... well.. ♥♥♥♥.

I can hardly beleive there is no solutions to that... ?

It was working fine until this round of updates, I was using the "Improved Phantasy Star II" mod which saved perfectly fine. However, since last night, my saves were wiped and resetting the console will wipe any new save I make.

Not sure if it helps but all saves should be in your steam cloud in case you lost them

https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=34270

Mos saves before the update looked like this
SEGA Mega Drive Classics/Name-Of-MOD/gs00.sav

So don't know how renaming a save state is even of help, you probably need to place it in the correct subfolder.

By looking at it now, it looks like they changed the directory of where the save files go. Now they look like this (at least for the games, not sure if its the same for mods too)

SEGA Mega Drive Classics/user_76561198124918358/Beyond Oasis/gs00.sav

On a second look at my cloud it looks like they changed the directories of where save files go, but they didn't change it for the mods. I will have a look when I'm at home in about 10hrs, and if possible point to a solution.

Alright Thanks for your help.

Seems like both of you are right since the update everything is messed up for me.

So far what i got is the saves in documents/SEGA Mega Drive Classics/user_XXXXXXXXXX/Shining Force/bs.sav or gs0x.sav.

I beleive thats the folder when you play the regular game and save either using state or regular in game save.

The thing is i have no idea what is the save folder for the mods since i just cant save at all.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around moving all of the different saves to different folder/subfolders and still couldn't get it to recognize any of the saves. If y'all figure anything out I would love to hear it.

you guys are right, it doesnt save mods, well it does (if you look on your hard drive, you see save files), but the room emulator doesnt display it, it always shows empty slots. i will report that. other than that, i was right, you probably just move the save file in the correct folder when it works, the only difference i seen was, formerly the save stats have been

gs00.sav, gs01.sav, gs02.sav, gs03.sav for the 4 save slots
and now they are
gs01.sav, gs02.sav, gs03.sav, gs04.sav

technically the saves should still work, so better back them up just in case.

formerly the saves were inside
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\SEGA Mega Drive Classics\ in their representive subfolder
now the saves go to
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\SEGA Mega Drive Classics\user_76561198124918XXXX
in their representive folder, BUT mods don't have the mod_name = folder_name anymore, instead they now have the workshop ID as their foldername, like 674578957 (if the save files are for Sonic 3 complete: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=674578957)

I'm pretty sure your formerly made saves will still work once they fix it!

anyways, I'm gonna report it now

Yeah thanks.

You are right i noticed the changes too. I guess the facts they dont have the same name could be the problem. Anyway i was about to report it too since it was the next step in my process cause im clearly not able to fix this.

Thanks for your time and help ill send a report too.

RouSSeL Jun 7, 2018 @ 6:07am
