How to install Sonic 3 AIR?
I decided to get S3&K on steam for the Sonic 3 AIR expansion but I am trying to figure out how to install it. Do I just copy and paste the files into Steam folder or do I do something else

The thing is that S3AIR is a standalone sourceport that needs the Sonic 3 & Knuckles rom you got on Steam.

You right click on the Sega Classics then property then browse local files.

Then you search for the uncompressed roms (for S3&K it should be called "Sonic_Knuckles_wSonic3.bin" ) then copy and paste it into the same folder as the Sonic 3 AIR exe

So by doing this I can access the AIR version by launching S3&K on Sega Classics through steam correct

No because AIR uses its own executable.

The Sega collection is its own game (for Steam) and the games are their DLCs

I feel really dumb for not being able to understand this, but I can't figure out how to do this?

You should be able to run Sonic 3 A.I.R. without copying over the ROM; it will attempt to find your Steam installation path on launch and if it can't find it a dialog will appear to select the ROM file.

Yeah, you must put the game file in the main folder.

Enjoy your game

You need to extract the .zip file to do that right click on it and select extract then open the extracted folder and double click sonic 3 air

Enjoy ;)

You can't legally get a rom for Sonic 3&Knuckles anymore unless you somehow have access to the original catridges and dump their data on your PC, which can be very complicated and I don't recommend newcomers to go all that way just to play Sonic 3 AIR. You can also buy Steam Keys from thirdparty websites but I would be quick, because eventually they will raise in value and be super expensive. If all fails, the last option would be to spend $40 bucks on Sonic Origins but it's not worth it right now, due to bugs, glitches and the pricetag might be pushing it a little.

Sonic Origins does not contain the ROM since the games have been remade from scratch.
