SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics

Sound chip emulation Yamaha YM2612
Hi all!

I recently bought this awesome collection of Genesis/Mega Drive games and I really enjoyed playing those classics.

Everything works fine, the input lag is not noticeable, but when I was playing to Streets of Rage or Toejam & Earl I notice that the emulation of the sound chip (Yamaha YM2612) has some problems and it's not like the original Genesis/Mega Drive.

My question goes to the developers of this compilation d3t: can you solve this problem in future patches? I know that is really hard to emulate and maybe this problem was because of budget constrains, but having out there emulators like Genesis Plus DX or Gens that does a really good job on this section, I don't understand why you don't put an extra effort to polish this awesome product.

I know that could sound arrogant, but as a consumer I want to leave my point of view. I'm a huge Mega Drive fan and it's something that SEGA deserves: have a nearly perfect emulation of their most iconic console (and, in this case, the particular sound chip).

With all said, you can leave your point of view here, and besides, I hope d3t give us an answer about it, could be great see that the developers hear us and they will consider fix this!

Thanks in advance.

They've pretty much abandoned this game and it's really dissapointing, Sega's usually one of the only companies that cares

Actually there's a very few number of MD emulator that could accurately emulate that "sound chip glitch" the original console natively had

But I wouldn't be against them fixing the sound bug that you could hear in some games (Like Sonic 1's goalpost sound being different)

Could be great If they fix that, it's something that future owners of this compilation will apreciate it. And also for SEGA's reputation, they don't deserve something like this. Fingers crossed.

They should really get some people from M2 to fix those things easily

That compilation is still a great thing overal (especially since there's the workshop)

Indeed they need help from M2 (they are gods doing their job with the ports of old games and systems). We don't have to lose our faith about it. D3T is still in time to fix it. Let's pray.

Sorry, but this emulator is nothing good at all. Its not just input lag and bad sound emulation, games also suffering from weird random slowdown/frameskipping issue, even in slow paced titles like Phatasy Star 4.

I didn't feel any imput lag... I mean there are probably some (which is normal for an emulator) but it doesn't heavily affect the gameplay

As for Phantasy Star IV the game itself is advanced for the console (being a late-life release)

Its not a normal console slowdown if you mean it and its not happening in any other emulators of Mega Drive, just in this one. I see stable 60 frames on fps counter but game clearly stuttering/runs choppy in random times, i don't know if its caching this rewind feature or connects to leaderboards, but its doing it all the time.

I've never noticed input lag with this emulator.

If it's any consolation for the OP, if you prefer other emulators, you can use them with the ROMs you bought on Steam.

To notice it - simply launch The Revenge of Shinobi and try to do double jump, first in this emulator and after in normal one like Genesis Plus GX.

Indeed this emulator has input lag (on certain games are more noticeable, like The Revenge of Shinobi or Streets of Rage). Genesis Plus GX does a really good job with the Mega Drive/Genesis emulation.

Sadly, d3t did a really bad job trying to port those games on modern consoles (a botched job, honestly), I'm considering not to play with this compilation and use Genesis Plus GX instead until they do something about it.

I already paid for this, so I must find some way to play my games having a good performance. They don't want to fix this, so... I fixed right away: use another emulator that works better, and was free.

With this I'm not saying piracy is good, but... this compilation is really awesome, the only thing they must do is fix is ASAP: input lag and sound chip emulation; nothing more.

I feel ashamed about SEGA hiring a lazy company like this one working with their legacy like this. Please, don't take it personal, it's only a point of view of one CONSUMER that have paid for your product.

Do something, SEGA!
