Arizona Sunshine

Arizona Sunshine

View Stats:
PC performance related to Arizona Sunshine.
Issue:
Game plays well, except that every 5 seconds or so there is a "freeze" that lasts for a very short time. If you blink, you can miss it. This problem is worsened by movement, zombies, and gunfire. If you look strait up, the problem goes away. I use "fpsVR on Steam" and it shows spikes every time one of these "pauses" happen. Sometimes I try closing my eyes when moving around to avoid motion sickness caused by the glitches.

Specs:

HTC Vive
i7 8700 cpu
RX 580 gpu
16 DDR4 Ram

Attempted solutions:
Video card driver update / basic settings
Adjusting some options in the Steam VR program
Adjusting resolution for each eye on Vive
Adjusting page file size
Adjusting windows performance settings

Not sure what settings to change or how to diagnose or fix this problem.

Any suggestions?

hmm. have you tried using a different cable ?
Zombie Killer Mar 9, 2021 @ 10:52pm
Yes. I tried a different set of cables, a different link box, different HTC Vive headset. Tried different USB ports. However - based on your suggestion, I will try another set of new cables. Thanks for the advice. I will report results.

No luck on the cables. Any other ideas? What settings should be changed?

I'm using the vive with the same processor as you but with gtx 2070. I didn't come across your issue before

Complete re-installation of Windows 10, upgraded to a SSD. Computer is much faster overall, but the exact same problem with Arizona Sunshine. GRU frametime spikes every few seconds casing brief pauses in the game that result in motion sickness. Adjusting the resolution helps a little but doesnt fix it 100%.

Try disabling any monitoring tools running in the background. Be it EVGA precision, MSI afterburner, FpsVR etc. But even after disabling that, chances are the stutter might be still there.. maybe AMD has that bug aswell.

Good tip. I know that some programs like FRAPS interferes with VR gaming. I will try disabling all monitors to see if it helps. AMD bug? What do you mean by AMD bug thing?

There is a option about cpu support something something.
I had to turn this off and everything worked better.
I would recommend to get fpsVR, it's a great tool and let's you see where the bootleneck is (if there is one).

I had a similar issue in Elite Dangerous with visible spikes in fpsvr. I solved it by messing around with the motion smoothing parameters in Steam VR.
