movement options.
I will purchase this game when the movement style gives us options similar to that of console games with different control schemes. I do not like warping and i think i speak for mostly everyone who doesnt, we prefer Onward style movement if you add that i will purchase this game but not untill then. there is a huge chunk of us who do not get motion sickness and I think in order to succeed yall need to cater to both play styles.

Onward wishes it was this cool

never said onward was better or worse, just talking about the movement.

trackpad locomotion is too immersion breaking for me, the jank you get is constantly reminding you that you are standing still, also for the people that use roomscale its dull because there is no reason anymore to actually walk around anymore, you could very well play it seated.
teleportation is where its at for me but i wish they would implement something like what they did in raw data too make it more balanced, and for the people that prefer locomotion i guess you could add a 2nd option, i have no idea why people would want to play like that :S
and before everyone starts replying "yea some people get motion sickness bla bla" no i dont get sick at all, its just the fact that locomotion trows the immersion out the window

i disagree 100%, but thats not what i was talking about. What i stated was both should be an option. and if you've ever played onward you would realize what i was saying. onward has this height sensor bult into the game Although short people are limited currently but hey. and this makes people when your standing you move normally, when you crouch your character crouches and when you lay down your character lays down and in doing this your movement speed changes based on that fact. and it caters to both people with roomscale you're going to track pad near something but fine tune walking in and grabbing a item with your roomscale similar to as i stated earlier onward.

i played alot of onward and yes the crouching and gameplay in general is awesome, but i feel that the trackpad locomotion is only in there because teleportation is not possible to balance the game for online multiplayer, but it is very immersive breaking for me. and i said in my comment that they should just put both options in there so people can choose, i just dont understand why people would prefer locomotion over teleportation, it feels like a gimmick, many friends have tried the vive at my place now and every single one of them says that locomotion is awkward and teleportation is something you get used to after 5 minutes

people whove tried the VR at my house feel the complete opposite, i let them play around with the lab, and vanishing realm and every time i let someone play it they thought "this is lame" and i can't help but echo that opinion and even after watching the video you posted the only way that this issue can be currently resolved is that they have to release both locomotion methods for every game. While we can all agree roomscale is what sells us on these games i do not see this movement issue getting resolved cost effectivly within the next 5-10 years. i know there are things under development like the omni but they're too expensive, too big and just doesnt accomidate going "Prone".

Maybe games will eventually come out with a mix of both warping and locomotion in the way of point and click and your character will move automatically on that linear path i don't know how that will work out i'm not a dev.

but everyone who's working on VR currently is all thinking the same thing "How do we solve moment" and untill there is a 100% great way that everyone loves; early developers MUST band aid the situation with a selection of movement methods.

Not to mention multiplayer games with warping is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dreadful.

DIDNT REALIZE THERE WAS ALREADY LIKE 7 other threads on this subject, let it die.

agree with movement being a problem atm, while i like teleporting i feel its not ideal, especially in terms of balancing and online play, art of fight tried something new and it does feel alot more immersive then the usual trackpad locomotion but the biggest problem i have with it is that you dont have your hands free while moving wich makes you feel limited :/
what quell 4D did also works but i dont think that fits for all games
for now raw data takes the win on movement right now, it feels like i have the ability to "jump" (like the movie jumper, i always wanted to be able to "jump")

yeah, i'd appreciate free movement. i'm used to how it is now, but I would have preferred the option

Your friends and you played Vanishing Realms and thought "this is lame"? I have never heard that reaction before. I usually have to force my friends and family to take off the headset after a while when I demo that game.

yes it does, more then locomotion, you are standing still on your feet but still when you press a button on your controller your whole world starts moving, its THE most immersion breaking in vr, i prefer teleporting anytime
DMelT Dec 10, 2016 @ 7:27pm
Even if they add trackpad locomotion keep in mind transition spots like stairs, ladders, etc. would still have to remain as blink teleport transitions without the devs having to do a lot more work. It's not always as easy as just checking a box

If someone 1st tried out VR, playing Vanishing Realms & thought "this is lame" - don't let them play VR anymore. ;)
