Can I play while seated?
Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to VR. It says the supported player modes are standing and roomscale. I would like to play while seated (I am a couch potato and don't like hopping around my room with a bucket on my head). Can I play this game while seated or do you really need to be standing up?

Why do people like this bother buying VR?

Hmm... Let your mind to be more open....

VR is not about room size gaming, far from it!
VR is about virtual reality and reality combined. Meaning the real person is having fun doing something they couldn't do otherwise.

We need to remember what a human is, that is a lazy and comfort seeking hunter/collector with curious mind.

And eventually gamers are lazy. That is the generation of the console gamers that they want to lay down on the coach or chair and play games with small controller without seeing much physical efforts. Just like with PC gamers for keyboard and mouse (just happen to be standard input devices for a computers) and you can do lots of things just by sitting down with small movements.

Now, a FPS gamer can play virtual soldier for hours (or even days) without much effort. But to them to do that in reality, to run every day a 50-100km and half of that crawling, kneeling etc? No... Very few really would like about it!

And you can like about being a soldier shooting others, but in real world you wouldn't want to harm anyone by any means! Because you take the gaming as a sport challenge, like an sport event or teamplay. Yet it doesn't mean you are violant person.

And if we take the average person, they don't want to jump and move around a room for many hours. Swinging a sword, shooting things and running etc. As it is physically fairly challenging for many.
So if you give them a change to sit down comfortably and play, many will take it. But the VR adds a immersion by 3D and the blocking view otherwise. And that is what matters in VR!

If you want to move, jump and have fun in a room, get a Nintendo Wii and try it.... What happened? Couple years and it was goner. Players were back to their traditional controllers an sitting down.

The idea of the teleportation was nothing more than a guest to get people to move, to have "experience" but average person doesn't want to crouch down and jump and move across room dozens of times a day... Heck, you don't even get a average person to walk a 1-3 floors instead taking an elevator! Talk about walking a 6-10 floors few times a hour and you would get people angry and want to get the elevator! And that is what the in-room VR is all about! That is the challenge! (And I am a person who takes the stairs always if I am not in the horry or carrying more than 30kg with me).

And VR challenge is that players get bored/tired to really move their hands and kneel down etc in time. First it is great and fun, but then they find out the lazy way to do some sword swinging or throwing just by flicking a wrist etc instead whole arm as they would be there. And then that leads that instead moving across 3m wide area, they just teleport or do other things to get easier.

And eventually people just consider having a chair and do it that way. Lazy human character that lives on all of us. And that is something as well that is separating example a role playing people from those who are more uptight about "role playing" as they can't get their minds out of the reality for some other role. Because people are shy and scary etc. So VR is just one way to get it "more approachable".

The best audience that VR can ever have.... Are simulator fans. Flight simulators and driving simulators are THE target audience, THE best experience you can do and THE best game genre you can play. Why? Because you are anyways already sitting in a chair in a game, as in reality. You have controllers and you just get the immersion right away there.

When developers added the locomotion to AS, they made BIG change as it allows people to avoid teleporting (breaking immersion) and allowing even to move easily the short distances etc.

There is just the thing in the humans that want the comfort and nice things easily. Why to walk 2km to store, when you can drive there in five minutes?

Go to Los Angeles in California and you will understand why that city is called as drivers city, because people don't almost even move across the street without driving across it!
They think you are a crazy if you say you are going to walk to some place that is just a 500m away.... They ask do you want to get a lift?

And that is what happens when you are given a change to do things more easily and comfortable.

And VR is not about hiking, climbing, jumping, rolling, crawling etc... It is all about "immersion" and users want to eventually do that comfortable without stressing themselves.

The VR is marketed in wrong way, a friends sitting on coach watching from TV how one is playing in a game front of them and having fun swinging and kneeling etc? No.... It is as fun as going with your friend to gym to watch him to do excerices while you would want to be at home watching netflix....

Eventually the human mind just remembers "This is a game" and immersion dies. "No, you don't need to move your whole body away from that bullet, just move your head little bit" or "No, you don't need to swing your whole arm with a force to throw that knive... Just flick your wrist nicely" And that is how human mind itself destroys the immersion, and if they can't do that, they don't like it for longer periods as it gets too tiring.

And I don't even mention about people in wheelchairs, beds, having bad knees, having a just one arm or leg.... And they propbably would like to have fun too or at least experience the hype about VR etc. Like give the Oculus "Climb" game to a person who has been in a wheel chair 5/6 of his lifetime since being 10 years old.... And oh boy does it feel something as you can get somekind memory how it was to climb to a tree or rock with friends etc. And it can be heart broken effect as well because the can very well remember their tragedy to lose all that possibilities.

Virtual Reality is a very effective tool, just like a knive. It is question what you do with it for is it good or bad or is it even useless.

So beyond.. Thats a lot of words I just don't want to read. ;}

It got so drifted off subject to disabled ♿ gamers. I'm just not one for jumping around in my play umm play space. It was nice to see the Arizona Sunshine played sitting down. Should have returned it but didn't simply for not being able to play sitting down. I simply DO NOT want to stand to play something unless it's something of only a few minutes but then I wouldn't buy that kind of experience. Gaming is relaxing for me and not a body workout unless you consider only the parts to play conventional games a full body. I don't. Anywho.. I need to check on calibration for height it seems. Though I play from a bean bag and AS had me putting cassettes in my floor. Pass. Half Life Alyx playing sitting down.. ;}

I broke my foot, now I have to play seated/lying, but can't find a crouch button so I can't pick up anything, The absence of a simple crouch function is preventing me from playing this :(((

I have, don't think I was limited in the travel involved. Either your okay with the travel or your not. The way that driver handled it seems like problem resolved. We need to have some fun and chop it up... :)

I always play seated cause of safety reasons such as small room. It's important that developers know that

The problem with sitting is, if you want to collect some ammo from the ground you cant reach it and there is no button that i know that let you go prone without to do it yourself
