In the mine, the winch handle isn't there when I need it

Just finished killing the swarm in the mine after pulling the winch handle out of dead Fred, the narrator says "I got what I need", I go back to the elevator to open the door, try to stick the handle in the hole like I did the first one that lowered the draw bridge, and it says "Need Winch Handle".

I tried quitting and then continue, and I have to kill all the Freds all over again after getting the handle, go back to the elevator, and it still says I need the handle.

Can anyone help? I really want to get out of that mine.

P.S. I also tried searching all over the chamber to see if I dropped it somehow. No luck.

Theres 2 things you have to get in the mine .......the winch handle and the power lever.....i think you grabed the power lever out of that rear chamber......the winch handle is deeper in the mine back where you first entered the elevator chamber theres a gate at the bottom of the stairs when you walk in the area.....key is in the office

Thanks! I'll give that another look. I went in there before with the key, but only found a Fred on a platform above me that I couldn't find a way to get up to after I shot him.

If you're where I think you are; when you open the gate with the key and walk to the split-point, where there's a Fred standing on a walk-way above you, then continue along the path to your side til you get to a large room where there's a raised large platfrom in the middle. To get on to that platform, walk around it (the far end looks blocked, but you can get through it) and go up the stairs on the opposite side. On that platform you'll find the handle to open the gate to the elevator (and some other cool stuff :) )
