The main criticisms of it are that it's:
1) Extremely repetitive
2) Boring because of this, making the player feel like they accomplish nothing meaningful
3) Not much content that helps change things up or really to add any decent length to it as it's very short.
4) The writing is dumb, childish, and too self-serious to even engage in ironic entertainment. Which makes it a purely "look at me, I'm edgy!" game with dull cynicism that doesn't really make it entertaining to experience.
5) Not actually anywhere near as violent as many other games out there making the cynic nature of the game even more dull and laughable.
6) It's a dual joystick shooter. So it's basically an XBLIG with slightly higher production values. One of the few positive things anyone has to say about this game, even those who write negative/mixed reviews (so every critic and many consumers), is that there are some good visual effects with explosions. But even then the game gets criticism for having a yawn-tastic color pallete. In relation to it basically being an XBLIG it's pretty much way overpriced for what it is. It could be good for MAYBE an hour of entertainment at best but the general consensus is that the game gets boring and tedious very quickly which for a short game is doubly problematic.
Not to mention it pretty much only got it's advertising based off of the controversy of the Dev being a douchebag alone but the critics are putting that aside when they're judging the content of the game itself.
go play little pony, this is a game better suited for you i think. leave this game for the grown up.
Yea, you'll notice most of the positive reviews from Steam users have barely any playtime whatsoever and don't actually give any critique of the game at all. Pros or cons.
Not to mention most of the Steam reviews/purchases come from people who blindly bought the game for political reasons as well since the dev is a known GGer who explictly stated he made this game to "attack those evil SJWs and feminazis!". Their blindness to the game's faults is just evidence that they don't care about video games on their own merits. Sure, some could like it legitly but most don't seem to actually buy the game for that reason.
What happened to all the grown ups?
It's past their bed-time.
Also, again, most people buying this game are doing so for political reasons, they aren't actually playing the dumb thing.
Like I said, if you read my post, this game is basically an XBLIG with higher production values. Artstyle has literally nothing to do with genre/playstyle of a game which is why I said what I said. Dual joystick shooters are a staple of XBLIG ever since I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 came out way back in fall of 2009. And no, I'm not making that up. One of my favorite LPers, SGF, has a whole series of well over one hundred+ XBLIG videos covering that week (or month if that was a particuarly dead time for XBLIG) and dual joystick shooter is one of the most recurring game-types. Those and Minecraft clones are extremely common. And if it has zombies, that's also normal for XBLIG. Eventually FNAF clones started appearing as well.
Because they wanted to make a quick buck from the non-gamers who wanted to buy it.
They're all in collusion anyway, right, broski?
Plus fellow players who are actually writing in-depth reviews and not non-reviews (bad jokes more or less) on Steam are actually giving it negative scores and saying the exact same things the critics are. But clearly that's just a conspiracy.
