Active Shooter looked like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and the shock value clearly was the main and only argument. I agree it shouldn't have been banned, but unlike Hatred, I highly doubt this was a product made for being something else than a controversial title, and I think that's the main reason why it was banned.
Remember that Hatred was almost banned from Steam too, until Gabe Newell HIMSELF clarified the situation.
Active Shooter was far from being a competent enough product beyond the mass killing purpose to benefit the same treatment, that's all. Tons of ♥♥♥♥ games were banned from Steam - remember DigitalHomicide studio ? Yeah.
Controversial subject + ultra low quality value = ban for rather good reasons to avoid people getting scammed and useless polemics.
Doesn't matter if the game will be trash or not (and likely will be, yeah, though for other reaons).
The lack or creation of one or two controversial video games, movies, or songs...dare I even say a thousand more, won't somehow magically disappear or further propogate the issue at hand.
But I guess pointing the finger at someone's attempt to take advantage of controversial subject matter, and "protecting" people from the harmful notions it represents is a much safer and easier strategy, rather than to look inward towards our own humanity (or lack thereof), and outwards at the grotesque and regular failings of our society.
How it has evolved, is a totally different thing that no-one was able to predict back then. Hatred was polished with no major problems at launch, AS did not, it really doesn't help to take something seriously when it looks like a blatant cashgrab.
Now if the game evolved and looks competent enough, nothing prevents them to try to release it through steam once again. Hatred is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ violent and is a game about mass rampage, so I really don't think the violence or controversial subject was the problem with it, it's more of a overall presentation that seemed to be a easy cashgrab.
Hatred 2 should show those scammers how it's properly done!
Hello FBI / NSA ;)
anyways thought i would end it with this note : Would you rather have people playing games that are based on Active Shooters so people can take out their anger in a game ? or would you rather have Active Shooters in real life that will cause real damage to take out their anger ? UN-BAN the game and BRING IT BACK
You can't be serious.
Taking your anger out by killing innocents in games and killing them in real life is absolutely not comparable. If you feel the need to take your anger out by playing games to avoid doing the same thing in real life, you don't need Active Shooter or any ♥♥♥♥, you need a psychiatrist ASAP.
Not trying to be that pseudo-intellectual guy but this pretty much sums it up:
"If I also may elaborate by saying that virtually everybody programmed by thousands of years of evolution has a natural "Darwinian" based drive. Yes it is an abstraction, but most competitive behaviours are rooted in natural selection based adaptations within the mind. (Hint T-shirt). It is perfectly logical to play a violent video-game that appeals to these senses. (Distinction between fantasy and reality of course)
Those natural selection based adaptations within the mind are what undoubtedly contribute to competitive violent actions among people who are competing for resources and failing at the social games people animalistically play with each other. Evolutionary psychology and sociobiology have broken this down extensively.
Your brain has to be stimulated to break out of the matrix......
So why not play a game that "Tricks" the evolutionary based senses in your mind or find better abstract solutions - Because in the end people are animals who have that primal urge to dominate, resource guard, and play games which everybody is hypocritically locked into."
human behavioral biology has some cool stuff too
