error, could not initialize sound management

i get this message whenever i try to start the game, and then the game has no sound. what do i do?

Hi,

try to run game in Configuration mode and change selected Sound Engine.
Java Sound should work everywhere (but it's little bit slower than OpenAL).

I did that and that got the sound working, but it froze the game at the intro text screen, and the game wouldnt respond to any of my comands, the mouse would move for a second or 2 and then freeze for a minute, I tried to force the game to close with alt+f4 and ctr+alt+del but it didnt respond to either, then the screen turned black, and after waiting for something to change for a while I had to manually shut down my pc. Does that sound like something that can be fixed? I´m afraid to even try to run it again, that´s really a shame because I was really looking forward to playing it.

So sorry for that - issues with sound are very rare. At worst it can be switched off in Configuration as well.

Please try to restart machine - maybe there is some process blocking sound channel or something like this.
If that won't help - please send me aof.log file (in should be in Document and Settings/Age of Fear) forlder.

same thing man, it all goes well until i select new campaign and get the intro text, then i get an incredible lag, it takes 3 minutes to espond to a comand, i just clicked continue and waited this long, the next text screen didnt recognize the click after a few minutes I tries to alt+f4 it, but it didnt work, so I had to manually shut down the computer again. You dont need to bother about the file thing because I´ll just get the refund, seems less work.

ok, so as I understand:
- OpenAL sound gives an error
- you have switched to Java Sound and it's very slow
- you have restarted machine and it is still very slow

Can you please try to switch back to OpenAL engine and check now (after you restarted machine)?

ok, i[ll try, it also takes about 2 minutes to start loading something everytime

Also, please make sure the Sound Engine is set to OpenAL.

Yes. I restarted my PC and that did not work. The thing is that I can´t select any other Sound Engine but OpenAL which does not work.

You can't select any other engine?
That's weird.

Can you please try to run configuration from Steam directly (just select Configuration when launching game from Steam client).

you should be able to select Java Sound, which is slower but works everywhere.

Ok. I ran the configurator and it let me choose Java Sound and the sound worked. BUT......the game slowed down mty machine till the extent that I was unable to control it. So I had to shutdown my PC manually. This is terrible, Les.
