Voltiguers or chasseurs? (French skirmishers)
What unit is better?

I rather use the Chasseurs, because the role of Light Inf is to outrange the oponent but at the same time having more firepower than rifleman.Of course, this is from a SP perspective.Maybe in MP Voltiguers are better.
Depends on your tactic, Voltiguers are good when you plan on camping or play very defensive. In that case you can order them to deploy wooden stakes which protects them. It is worth it.

If you like attacking or have an aggressive fighting style i would recommend chasseurs because they are great in numbers and will inflict more casualties to the enemy.

I always use light infantry over snipers (on MP), especially on grassy flatlands. In my opinion they (light inf.) are way better.
Chasseurs have more numbers, voltiguers are good for figthing in dense terrain as their high accuracy helps out. Also the volts have anti cav stakes. None is really better, its just the situation.

Chasseurs all the way for me they have larger units and i just work with them better and they are good all round units but i still can work with Voltigeurs but i prefer Chasseurs
I love my volts but their are times when i need consolidated fire and for that i need chasseurs in line of battle. They have also rushed forward in skirmish order to bayonet many rifleman much to the surprise of my opponent.

5 years late, but Volts are better than Chasseurs, at least in MP. Volts have much better stats, are far cheaper, can plant stakes, can hide in foliage, and spread out more than Chasseurs, making them harder to hit. If you get in a straight up firefight, Volts will outlast Chasseurs, simply because they'll take less damage per volley, and have higher morale.

Plus, probably the largest reason to use Volts over Chass, they fulfill the same role, yet one let's you spend money on other things. Even if Chass were slightly better than Volts, taking 5 Volts instead of 5 Chass let's you slip in another unit of Old Guard, which is always worth it.

I'd say chasseurs
Actually most of you (CAMPING) (DEFENSIVE) players using skerms like that can be effect but, Volts go ahead of the line and provide snips in the enemy, Chass advance in front of the main battleforce and maintains extensive firepower, Using them defence is nothing compared to what you can do offensive if you fight like a real general and not a player. Volts need to be backs up by either cavalry are artilliery fire to maintain it's status, But Chass can stay with the line, Hell even volts can stay with the line, Because wether some people like to admit this, When the two lines clash and the lines are volleying its all about who can bring more guns to bare besides to excess things around the flanks with cavalry reserves or flanking moves.
