Is it the game by some of creators of THE SUFFERING?
I remember reading interview by suffering creators about new game, but did not memorize its name, however it looked very similar to this game.

So, any The Suffering devs here?

PLease guys if you reading this - secure rights or license from current owners and make a remaster of The Suffering 1 and 2 with improved graphics, gamepad support and so on... (look at shadow man remastered as good example or blood rayne terminal cut as not so good example but successful, mass effect le also another example)... and maybe this will help to gain interest in Suffering 3 or remake of 1st 2.

P.S. - btw i am the guy who contacted creator of unofficial DRAKAN patches and requested him to patch some issues of THE SUFFERING because it used same RIOT ENGINE that guy had good expirience with, so if you will ever decide to remaster SUFFERING, contact and hire that guys who did DRAKAN and SUFFERING patches.

This was a very different game as The Suffering, but still dark subject matter, difficult choices to make, just less supernatural creatures. Would love to do something with The Suffering again at some point, in fact I'm working on some stuff more similar The Suffering right now... Just need more time to work on it!

Thanks,

Wow, i expected to see community manager speaker for some of Suffering developers, but not expected to see the suffering director himself - Richard Rouse III! !!

Thank you very much for The suffering games!

i still have DVDs of both and own GOG re-releases (shame they are not on steam... maybe you can do something about it?), game still feels, plays and even looks pretty good, despite some technical and few design flaws and lack of gamepad support on PC (which makes it a little hard to play nowadays as i only play with gamepad on PC)...

Wish i could have source code and source assets and assemble team of fans of game to make some quality of life, graphical and gameplay improvments (and also make some more consistency between 2 games, like same models for both, with ability to swtich to S1 shared models or S2, as design was changed a little bit and im not sure which one was better), because game is already a classic and deserves to be discovered by more of people who missed it back than.

Surely it deserves a sequel or prequel or spin-off to explain its lore, and remake as well. And refreshed improved original version is a good start to regain attention to game and revive series.

I wonder if sources and tools are still preserved and can be published???

And thats a great news that you making something similar to Suffering...

You know there was many games that started as something else and than turned into sequels or spin-off of some know series... sometimes, when devs had no rights they used different name of game or somewhat changed (for example "the suffering" and lets say "beyond the suffering" or "Sinner's Suffering" are legaly not the same title and not a subject of copyright infrigment) name and also used different characters and sometimes different by similar design of enemies and put whole story into same universe, with same rules, same themes, same gameplay, same everything, except for direct match of names and designs.

Some devs managed to mention characters and events of other games but without directly telling names, so it was vague connection which legally is not copyright infrigment, but practically such references show that games are tied and happens in same universe.

I remember how FEAR 2 was initially Project Origin, they lost rights to FEAR franchise but still made a sequel with different name and initially without direct mention of anything from original games, but it obviously was a sequel... and after some time in production they actually managed to buy back rights to franchise (i dont know the deal, maybe they promiced some profit share % cut to current owner of IP so it was a good deal even if IP is got lost to current owner, owner still makes money from new game without spending anything on it) and then it was renamed to FEAR 2 project origin.

There was also major lore connection between Demon Souls and Dark Souls:
https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/32236/what-is-the-relationship-between-dark-souls-and-demons-souls

"It is stated in the beginning of Dark Souls, that in the age of ancients the world was filled with arch trees, and everlasting dragons and was shrouded by fog.

In Demon's Souls, when we first start off, the narrator explains how the fog swept across the land, killing much of humanity in the process. Demon's Souls contains arch trees and dragons."

Soooo maybe if you dont have any rights to Suffering for now (i hope it will change)... your new game could be "WINK WINK" :winter2019joyfultearssnowman: not just somewhat similar, but also somehow connected to it and could happen in same universe and be an officially unofficial sequel\prequel\spin-off and have a name subtitle somehow related to Suffering (like for example "CURRENT TITLE: more than suffering") ?
:Emil:

You know, it would be not just great fan service for fans of Suffering, but also a good marketing... so in interviews you can call it spiritual successor, but in fact it could be part of same series just like Dark Souls is part of Demon Souls series :-)

P.S. - btw are you also a director or game designer of Drakan 2 (its a shame that such a gem was not available for PC with superior graphics and features) ?

Hey wow! I missed this quite thoughtful reply until now. Thanks for all the kind words.

Lots of good ideas in here, lots to think about. I will say what's most important to me, if I were to work on a new one, was it would have to be done the right way, with the right budget, right amount of time, key people on the team, etc. I wouldn't want to disappoint any fans, including yourself. Though when we were making the original game, we never thought we had enough time or money then either, so maybe you just have to do the best with what you have.

It's true I don't have any rights to the games as of right now, so can't decide myself to put the games on Steam, thought that would be great if they were. And I particularly like your idea of putting the S1 characters into S2 and vice versa, that would be a cool way to remix them.

Fun fact - a bunch of people who worked on The Suffering also worked on The Church in the Darkness. From animator Brigitte Samson, designer Andre Maguire (who did the music for Church), to artists Spencer Boomhower and Martin Murphy. And three of our four voice actors on Church were in The Suffering - Rafeedah Keys (who played Carmen), Arif Kinchen (who played Miles), and John Patrick Lowrie (who played Sergei, Hermes, and a lot of other characters). The whole game was a bit of a reunion of people I wanted to work with again!

Very grateful for you still caring about the game all these years later. You've given me lots to think about...

- Richard
