The character toggle system is one of the main gimmicks of the game and there for most of the game.

Nope. But it isn't as horrible as you may think. The game shines on second playthroughs, but not knowing what is ahead is half the fun and half the dread.

I would even say if you play it for the first time, you will die a lot. This is with CV the hardest classic RE.

Yeah.. as a first time player going in blind on hard mode, this game is kicking my ass a bit.
Not a fan of the random out-of-the-blue boss battles whereby you maybe probably have most of your weapons/healing items on the wrong character (Centurion..)
This is one thing that I miss about the proper classics - there's no danger of you accidently not being geared and prepared because there's little reason for you not to be on your only one and main character.

I think the partner system works pretty well, you can split up for most of it.
