No Autosave, No Save System Info
I progressed in the game for a while. There is no autosave point after death! Manual save is required. The worst part is that the game DOES NOT TELL you that you need to go to the typewriter with the ink and save!

I guess I'll have to wait until my anger subsides to start again...

Yep, one of the things that makes the old RE games more challenging. And the higher the difficulty the less ink ribbons you get too. If you're not use to these I suggest just playing it on easy otherwise it can be frustrating instead of fun when the camera changes and you're running toward the zombie that's chasing you instead of away from it :MMForFun:

The problem is that proper information is not given about the save system in the game. If they explained this system from the beginning, I would save accordingly.

RE0 is a game from 2002, and the fifth installment in a franchise that never had auto-saving at that point (except for Code Veronica having a "Retry" on death).

Different gaming era. This and other mechanics were staples of classic RE games and very much taken for granted back then, and for those who didn't know about them it was usually the kind of stuff you were warned by reading the game's manual.

RE1 (and its remake), RE2, and RE3 also have the same manual system (and RE7 if you play in Madhouse difficulty iirc)

It was my mistake to expect an autosave feature for such an old game. But they could have shown the player a tutorial at the beginning of the game. "Look, in this game you have to do this and that to save." It is not even mentioned in the player's handbook-1 in the files section of the menu.

I think most of those who play RE for the first time have experienced this situation. Welcome gift of the game :) Thanks for the information.

You did choose to play a prequel to a game, so they already expect you to know the rules.

Also, play RE1 first. Its a better game in terms of design and much more fun for a first classic style game.

The ink ribbons seems more difficult than they really are. As long as you always save after making some progress and dont waste them all the time.

I agree with op, it should have been stated you need to save using an ink ribbon (and I did play RE1 on PS1 when it first came out). Everyone else seem to think op needs a lesson on how things work or used to work, and I disagree with that.

Perhaps you're right, but this game is a "game of old". They don't make games like this anymore (and likely never will). I guess, what I'm trying to say here is that the game also gets a pass for that and no one is to blame.

That, and this game is very unforgiving, hence, you should be saving often either way.

This thread is a bit old now, but something that nobody mentioned is that back in those days, it was expected that the player reads the manual. Everything was explained there, but we are used to not having manuals anymore.

I was going to say the same thing. There is a manual right in the game with all these OG RE games. Boy, times have changed. This is the era of the "casual gamer".
