Cof cof Dead Space, cof cof RE2 Remake
It was at that time prerendered backgrounds look nicer than 3d scenes.
Fixed camera do give more dramatic feel, with variation in composition.
But serious pain to play (no one enjoyed being killed by monsters off-screen).
I guess fixed-camera will still survive in current age for pure adventure games, but not for FF7-9 or RE0-3,outbreak.
It's a real survival horror when you don't just shoot everything you come across, dead space forces you to clear enemies out several times and makes sure to keep you stocked up by allowing ammo drops from enemies. In fact I had so much stock ammo left in the vault at the end..
