But I've seen most speedrunners grabbing and I do myself. If you don't know how to manage the inventory, yeah you might think the game is "trolling" you. But the 8 round Magnum box is just around the corner, so you stack that one on top of the 1 bullet.
Don't carry around too much crap! You need for example to ditch Rebecca's handgun shortly after the Centurion fight. And after the Laboratory, you shouldn't keep any handguns at all.
For example.
Anyway, one magnum bullet is worth quite a lot. It equals around three shogun shells. Or 2-3 grenade rounds.
PS. If you are actually speedrunning, you shouldn't place stuff so you have to backtrack for it. And placing stuff as suggested at the Burning Train area is quite silly. You should never backtrack that far. Speedrunning means moving forward, not backwards.
Re-strategize and re-route if you find yourself backtracking and hoarding stuff.
If there's one thing "trolling" you in this game it's the Molotov cocktails (empty bottles + Gas tanks...).
Just try it out and you'll figure it out. But don't shoot them to make them move or distract them because then yeah you may have to kill them. Wasting ammo, possibly health and time.
They won't notice you until when you are in front of them. So you have to be quick too. But still, it's quite easy.
The devs made them face away from you to make it more thrilling to get the key and also to test you, I guess.
Either way. Any chance you get to preserve ammo you should take it. And to kill these two you need both characters and/or waste valuable grenade ammo or whatever. Much worse than the small risk of getting a light slash by them while getting that key.
This is just one of the places in the game where they make you think you have to waste ammo on enemies you can just dodge by.
