Arma 2 has the most unrealistic controls ever made and no optimization

Arma 2 has the most horrible movement, and mouse movements (positive and negative acceleration) that dont allow to aim realistically (unless you suck at shooters really bad) expecially at close range, maybe its realistic for those whose have problems with their muscles and nerves, so they move and aim the same way in real life.
Throwing is extremly limited and uncontrollable.

I use 400dpi and mouseSensitivityX=0.25; mouseSensitivityY=0.25; Turning 180 is way to slow.
When just using more DPI I can rotate like mad doing 360 turn in split second. When prone you can rotate ultra fast, which is unrealistic, prone in RO2 has hard limit, not negative acceleration, its much more realistic and you dont get annoyed by stupid mouse movement.
You cant use low sens like 30-60cm/360 here, negative acceleration will be so massive that you wont be able to turn at all.
Not alowing medium-low sensitivity gamers to play this game is stupid.

There is no excuse for wierd positive acceleration curve, it makes nothing realistic unless you have problems with your body control in real life.


1st person view that isnt camera in the head, its just 3d interface with ugly world model, because of this you cant always see when your weapon is colliding with something.


Its not possible to make realistic aiming and movement by restricting mouse movement. It will always be horrible and stupid.
(and Bohemia Interactive knows this and will correct it for Arma 3, hope they get it right this time)


Arma engine has no optimization at all and the game runs horrible on i5 2500k 4.5Ghz 8GB Ram and 560ti and not even on max.
Input lag is also not low enought, even with:
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1
mouseSmoothing=0
+ alot of windows and bios tweaks.
On max settings input lag is ~100-200ms.

DayZ is great mod, too bad they decided to make it on this horrible engine.

Especially when you say the helicopter controls are realistic I can't take you seriously. The flight controls in ArmA is probably the only thing that is slightly arcade'ish.

Arma 2 is closest to realism as it gets. It is played by major US armys as for tactical training. If you find a more realistic military game than arma, i would gladly like to hear it :)

Bohemia developes Scenario Simulations like VBS for the US ARMY and NATO, ArmA is pretty much the much less expensive "civil" version. I think they know a bit more about what makes a realistic game than you do.

arma2 comes pretty near to military realism (like sniping... I find it more realisic (zeroing) like in that other game where you can shoot testicles and such).

BUT the controls are crappy and somewhat unrealisic that's true. they don't feel natural to me either - as far as movement can feel natural when you only hit some keyboard buttons.

you should have put a less aggressive title to your post. =)
