To use mods the best way is the following, example: you create a folder with the name @myfiles, inside that folder, you create another with the name: addons and inside the addons folder you put all the PBO you want, then so that the game know that you have to run the content of that folder simply go to the launch options of the game in steam and put the following line: -mod=@myfiles; exactly as I put it here, and if you want to add more you simply repeat the process that I mention, create another folder with the name you want, example: @units within it the folder: addons and within it the PBOs, then in the launch options add the name of the folder and it would look like this:
-mod=@myfiles; @units;
To solve the problem you have, you have to remove all the files that you have put in the common folder and put them in a folder as explained above.
I can play the game in all mods and maps (via DayzLauncher for Arma 2) - no problem. BUT in AS2:OA Single Player Editor even the Chernarus map is missing. All gamefiles are verified and all mods are verified. I don't get it!
When I tried your sollution it seemed to work, but I got the same map issues as before.
Exactly in what folder should the @myfiles be (since some of it worked I guess I put it in the right place, but I am not certain of anything right now :) )
Then you carry out the following tests to detect the error, first you run the vanilla game, that is, without mods, test if everything is fine, close the game and run it again this time with the mods you use, if the problem appears with the mods, now You know that one of them is causing that problem, to identify which one it is, you will simply have to take the time to take one by one and open and close the game, something tedious, but effective.
Another way is to see if in the RPT file you can see the error
The RPT file is here, paste this line in the file explorer and hit enter:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA
there inside you are going to see several files and folders for now the only thing that interests you is to see the file: ArmA2OA.RPT you right click on this file and open with... notepad
you go to the last lines of the file and look for what errors it says.
The point is that sometimes it is necessary that you have knowledge of modding to understand and identify the error, more precisely about the config file of the mod.
At least maybe you can identify the name of the mod or pbo that has the problem.
Your explanation (and a lot of reading and looking at files) made me realize that for some reason OA didn't have Chernarus map, even though A2 had it. Even when I uninstalled/ installed (and did all the things you are supposed to do when installing) everything the Chernarus map was not in OA. That probably meant that other files were also missing. However, how to fix that I had already heard of many, many years ago. I just copied the addons file from A2 to OA and everything went back to normal.
And thanks to you I have a better way to use the files when creating intros and animated scenes.
Cheers, and have a good game!
ArmA2 is the one with the Chernarus and Utes map, they are the only 2 maps that the game brings, and ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead, brings Takistan and Zargabad.
Your problem is that you are not executing ArmA2 as ArmA 2 Combined Operations, that is, all the content of ArmA2 + ArmA2 Operation Arrowhead = ArmA2 Combined Operations
And if copying the addons folder from ArmA2 to ArmA2 OA is one of the ways to make it work as Combined Operations.
I'm glad you managed to solve your problem.👍
At least all this helped you to learn more about ArmA 💪
