Not sure why , but 404 wouldn't give any help on thier script ... if it was 'thier script' to begin with ( which I doubt highly.)
I ran the takistan server ( rented from survival servers) for about 5 months 24/7 , with 24 hour restarts ...
Had two people not myself log in and play it.
I thought it was fun ... but Epoch/Overpoch Mod basically held the spotlight ... kinda still does, and origins now ...
Wasteland is "ok" game mode/mission ... but , it is somewhat ... outdated.
The "basebuilding" is semi-alright ... but very simplistic as well.
Wasteland's biggest 'fail point' though is , it's dependant on having enough players to fight each other. Otherwise, it's very boring ... or so sparsely populated, to be boring.
I for one can't figure out why there was a UTES Wasteland ... that island is so small , it's pathetic. It's like ... too much of a player concentration "funnel" ...
Tonic's older arma2 wasteland got on Armaholic, or the 404 version found via Google or github.
I hadn't looked in a couple of years to know if any of that is avaliable still ... I'm sure what's on armaholic is for sure.
Like I said the 404 version ( which allegedly was stolen from Sumatra , renammed and some scripts added in to "whitelist admins" ) ... well, it has a few buggy issues.
Spawning in places everyone in Debug area far outside the map.
I tried changing the player scripts so that it'd work properly, but never got it to work.
I tried many times to contact 404 on thier forums, asking for help fixing the issue. They either didn't respond at all, or did not respond nicely ... So I stopped trying to fix it, and the HALO scripts worked on the Takistan version just fine. I have no idea why the same script wouldn't work on the Chernarus version , but it never did function properly.
That was my findings anyways.
When I was into wasteland , most other people were not ... DayZ epoch/overpoch was the "popular thing" to do , not many tried my server at all.
Out of five months , my server logs showed my restarts , me logging in, and two other people , only one stayed around for about an hour, by himself ...
Wasn't worth spending money on a unused, empty server on my end, so I shut it down.
Nowadays, kind of up in the air.
Most that are around arma2 Co at all , is the majority play DayZ mods of some sort.
The second minority is split between Russian modded servers , and "Life servers" ... of such I understand most the "life servers are dying/struggling " now too.
We have a Russian modder on the DaiZy ( single player dayz mods) forums , and from what I can understand from bad google translation from him, is that Russians have been able to mod incredible stuff for Arma2 , most will not leave arma2 , despite Arma3's ( and other games now) "popularity" ...
From what he's produced , that is Single Player mods , based off old version of dayz mods/code ... I can see why, they do tend to have the knowledge/ability to do some amazing things.
So, thats why you see alot of Russian Servers , or Russians playing on servers... they are very active with the game still.
At least, thats my assesment ... from observation of course. It's kind of a bad shame, that arma2 doesn't translate languages for those of us non-Russian/Chech speaking peoples.
Most of what kills the game for me on those, is purely miscommunication, or not knowing what the heck is going on.

Wasteland itself ... I don't know.
I was more enthralled with it than DayZ mods , hence why I found a copy and server files , and rented a server host for it ... for a short time.
But , it is well ... I don't know how to say it, a bit out-dated , a bit too "plain" for most still hanging around Arma2 CO/OA ... I think. Not 100% sure ...
Occasionally you'll see someone post here every month, on someone looking for something other than DayZ mods. So I'm not saying, there are not potential players out there.
I really think ... Wasteland as it is, needs a bit of an update "over-haul" ... keeping the basics the same, but updating things as well.
That would help increase players desire to come back and try such a mission play.
Give it a new spin ... maybe even give more content? I don't know myself , on what specifically to do with Wasteland to make it any different or better ...
But, the bottom line of Wasteland is , at it's core it's a TvT "Deathmatch" ... it lacks the appeal of "Battle Royale" games like PuGB and Fortnite ... why? I have no idea, because Deathmatching is Deathmatching in my eyes ...
But, if you could figure out ways to ENHANCE the Wasteland playing expereince ... maybe get a youtoober or two to run in it, record up and showcase it ... show off some changes, some additions ... it might spur an interest to the game mode, where it never gained enough appeal or "popularity" over DayZ play or the drive players had to play DayZ I should say.

I noticed an old "zombie" mission/Mod ... Dynamic Zombie Sandbox ( pre-dates DayZ mod ) , there's a mode in it , thats very "wasteland-like" ... , still have options of "teams" , Bluefor, Opfor, and Civies at least.
Has the same base building abilty , making fortified areas with arma included parts ... players I thik are supposed to "work together for survival" , but nothing stopping them from treating it like a zombie-infested "wasteland" ... but it does lack some features like food/water needs of wasteland of course.
It's not far off from Wasteland from what I could tell of it, ... it might even had been "created" using the old wasteland as a base to work from.
So that tells me ... there is some hope one could improve or change up what we know is Wasteland, make it more interesting/appealing ...
Having options way better than current standing, right now looking at the servers ... There's two dominations, but high pings for me ... a couple realsim groups private, ... the rest basically, DayZ vanilla, DayZ Epoch, DayZ Overpoch ... many variables of the three, and quite a few Origins based servers.
Lots of DayZ to be had ( most servers look empty or low pop though. ) ... not much anything else fun to do or play.
Since none of us are scripters or coders our attempts are not working to hammer out a decent version.
Anyone with the skills can contact me and maybe something can be done.
We currently have a serverup and it has gained some interest with 15 to 20 randoms joing over the weekend. However trying to set up a better version failed to work and Sunday night was a flop.
