Guess you're right, remembering back Arma 1's multiplayer also died pretty fast when Arma 2 came out.
I too have moved to Arma 3 but I always come back to Arma 2 because of the high quality mods and variety like the one's mentioned above. I mean Arma 3 got some good mods like RHS or IFA3 but everything else feels so unfinished and low on content.
Yeah, it's weird. The Arma community is really "versatile", for the lack of a better word.
The mods are better but I think Arma 3 will catch up, eventually. It's basically a matter of time considering the advancements that have been made.
Couldn't have worded it better myself.
And yeah Arma 3s Mods and AI are terrible, especially the driving AI. Can't put a vehicle in a group of soldiers because the driver will at least run over three of them till they have reached the waypoint.
I wanna play vanilla Arma, or I44, Unsung, CWR², Hell in Pacific etc. like it was before Arma 2 went mainstream.
If I wanted to play Life, Wasteland or ShîtZ I wouldn't have made this thread
PS: Domination is okay tho.
Correct I was playing the Iron Front mod with Geist texture mod. It's the only really 'fleshed out' ww2 mod for Arma 3.
And I won't uninstall Arma 2 just because the stupid game modes people play/used to play, I still have fun in SP with the good mods. It's just a shame and waste of peoples hard work that the mods I mentioned in my original post aren't getting played in MP anymore, vanilla Arma even.
Armas original fanbase would still buy it to play the way it was meant to be played and originally advertised, as a military simulator (See: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS8NRrOUj4rg5VkySZT86ETvfG9w5oc6HbPbg0WpCmjzfNBLDXV ), just like people still bought and keep buying the epitome of Arma: Operation Flashpoint CWC + RR, unfortunately though that the original fanbase got outnumbered by all the newcomers that only care for the dumbed down game modes.
I don't even really hate all these stupid game modes if it wasn't for the fact that the multiplayer only consists of them. And if it isn't Wasteland, DayZ, Exile or some Life servers, then it's shíte like King of the Hill which is equally bad.
I remember the times of Operation Flashpoint, Arma 1, and Arma 2 before it went mainstream, where you could just open your server browser, select any server you'd like and expect competent, communicative and teamplay-based military gameplay, which didn't always send you back straight to the respawn after dying but had stuff like "permadeath" (OFP times) instead, where you'd be unable to play on the server you died between a week up to a month as a punishment for bad tactics/playing.
Of course there's also been black sheeps in the playerbase now and then, but never has Arma been that bad in terms of it's multiplayer content/choice of servers.
I am only 21 but almost feel like some old sack after this rant, like the ones getting upset about todays youth or something.. imo. Bohemia should just split the playerbase, create one only military oriented-platform for their original playerbase and make another one for all those who prefer different gameplay but would still like to create their own content.
