I also use for watching TV recorded with win7 media centre on my win8 machine.
Honestly, I can see this software having value and could imagine using it on a regular basis. But a hundred Euro, or even fifty Euro, seems too much considering I would still need to buy the Blu-Ray drive.
buy the bue-ray drive and get the software bundled for free
Has anyone tried?
In my experience, there is no guarantee that you'll get the full software, or indeed any software at all, when buying an optical drive for your PC. I do get your drift though.
only time u dont get software with a drive if u buy a OEM drive.
Yes, that's true.
Still, I'd very much like to get the Steam version. But certainly not at the price they have it listed for.
@MadDoggyca sadly an OEM drive without extra software was until now the only option for a 9.5mm laptop BD Drive.
It was impossible for me to get a drive for under 900kr. This was even the case online, because the truth is that BluRay USB players usually aren't that useful without software to play it.
I burrowed a friend's Harry Potter collection to test out my new drive with movies, assuming it would just work, and here is the result:
Unfortunately, I own a Mac, so I'm just screwed. Went on Windows to install this and jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ it's bad. The image quality is awful because it's a retina screen and the program doesn't scale right, and before I could even watch the video I had to go online and download an update because of AACS. It was a massive, massive pain to even find out I had this software. Usually these driver DVD's have nothing useful, but here I eventually found out why all these USB players were so expensive: They all come bundled with this ♥♥♥♥. In my case, PowerDVD 12.
BluRay isn't losing to streaming, it's losing to its own DRM. It's just inconvenient and difficult to use. I've never heard anyone recommend to me to buy a BluRay, and now I know why.
december 2014 they gave out a free year of usage, followed by a sale later where I shot this thing for 27 Euros or so.
sadly it seems to have a problem with a few blurays but then I have my PS4
WinDVD Pro 11 is fully licensed, can play 3D blu-ray and convert 2D to 3D video. It is not however a general purpose media center like what PowerDVD is nowadays, but that is a very good thing in my opinion. I already have other software that I use for displaying pictures and playing music.
I hate the bloated mess that PowerDVD has become (and ugh the Metro like interface is ugly), so if I need full Blu-ray support for now I'm sticking with WinDVD Pro.
Lewl this thread still going on.
There this free piece of software if you don't care about blu ray menus (Leawo blu ray player)
I'm just waiting for my blu ray drive to arrive at my place
