[Spoiler] The Notebook
Anyone have an idea what that notebook contained? What he wrote about? I have no clue honestly... It could've been about anything :abs_zzz:

Faye
His Life
His Family

I wish it showed us what he wrote after they revealed the hidden writing

Overall, the book is a symbol of what is important in Colin's life at a certain time.

When he's a lonely child, he fills it with stories about his imaginary friend.
When he's a young pilot, it's got flight checklists.
When he's finally committed himself to living in the real world and with Sofia, he fills it with letters about their life together.

Colin replaces the old pages with new ones over time, meaning at some point, all his stories about Faye are gone and only memories of his life with Sofia remain. That's a fitting image for how the real world matters more to him now than make-believe.

He got the letter idea during their honeymoon. When he had spilled the lemon juice, Sofia told him how one can use it as invisible ink to write a letter to each other. Colin asks what they would write about, and Sofia said about their journey - and at the end of it, they could show their letters to each other. I do assume that he took her up on that and kept on writing about the whole "journey" of a life they had together, up until its end.

If you interact with it at certain parts of the game it says stuff like where he was talking about Faye as if writing the story about them both

He replaces the pages doesn't he? and I think he didn't know about the lemon juice trick until after he meets sofia. so he must've written a new story or something.

The game makes it's pretty clear that this notebook was his diary where he described his conversations with Faye.

So wherever he remembers spending time with her he was actually just writing it in the notebook.

Sofia told Dr. Neil to tell her if he find something about the notebook that's been ment for her. At shatter memory scene on Bora Bora Dr. Neil found out one detail that has been missed the first time about lemon juice and letters to each other (to read when journey ends). After Colin's death (end of his journey) we see Neil talking to Sofia for short period of time and then asked Asher for lighter. What's been written in the notebook are scenes acompanied with song "Wish My Life Away".

I didn't quite understand what was supposd to be in the notebook either. From context clues I assume its his diary to Faye as she told him next time they meet he can tell her all about his life. I guess he used the lemon juice trick so other people wouldn't read it. And he must've ripped out the pages from when he was a kid and replaced them with the seemingly "blank" pages as an adult. I just wonder if Sophia knew anything about Faye, what her reaction would be to finding out her husband had been writing a diary to this imaginary friend all these years, etc.

yeah but i'm still not sure why Colin was reportedly "replacing its pages"

He wrote so much he had to replace them over time

Faye mentions it when she departs

Before he knew about the lemon juice trick he's embarrassed by people reading the notebook, so he trashes the pages.

After he meets Sofia he just uses invisible ink and doesn't bother tearing out pages anymore.

As far as I can see, the notebook at the end did not contain the conversations with Faye. Here's why:
  • The childhood memories showed that he wrote those in normal ink.
  • At the point he said goodbye to Faye, Faye says something about him writing about other things from now on.
  • It was only on the honeymoon that the lemon juice ink got mentioned.
  • Sofia mentioned him replacing the pages, so most likely, the old Faye diary got removed.
The logical conclusion was that he followed Faye's advice, and the book was just his personal secret diary of his life with Sofia.

The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.
