Yeah, a "Pre-Release Beneath Almanac" of sorts would be loads of help to both new testers of Beneath and might be a good read for people who are more experienced.
Might've already happened, though, and I'm just lazy for not looking. Still, seconding all of this.
Step 2: Explore, fight, find your own way to do things because that's the funnest way to do it
Don't be mad, Twiggy, it's only a joke xx
Ooga Booga (Thing with the laser staff) - These still annoy me to this day. 2 ways you can counter this; Try to evade the laser by running away from it or hide behind an object (sucks up a lot of stamina). Use a glitch spot by standing right in front of him at point blank so he misses (can be risky because of other enemies).
Pursuer - As long as you're running, you will always be slightly faster than the pursuer. Don't get caught in dead ends, try to follow your compass. If you have surround headphones/speakers, that is very essential to figuring out which direction he is coming from.
Warper (only in crystal caves/ruins) - When he is in the animation where he is about to throw a spell at you, wait for him to throw it and then attack him right before he teleports.
Hydra (only in Crystal caves) Don't fight them, huge waste of time and weapon durability. If you ever have to because you're in a challenge or something, chop off all their heads then stab them.
Crystal Crab - Run and jump around when you hear their laser charge up, depending on what class you are, it may insta kill you. Hit them in the legs to kill them, either with a melee, ranged, or throwing weapon.
Skull - Hitting a skull while its charging up will do extra damage. If you have the brawler class, you can insta kill it right as its eyes turn red. When you hear the sound just do the same thing you would do with a crystal crab.
Spiders (only in ruins) - Try to spot them ahead of time since they come out of nowhere and often scare the sh*t out of me, yet they do very little damage. They are very annoying so kill as many as you can.
Thats about it for the annoying enemies. The other enemies should be pretty easy.
- If you're low on health, don't fight as much and just try to find the exit as quickly as possible.
- Don't use caffeine hit or any perk like it. It makes your attacks so much faster which often results in harder difficulty during combat due to how hard it is to hit someone.
- Brawler or Vanguard are the best classes.
- The person you rescued will be at the facility in the room right next to the room where you choose your class.
- If you ever see a challenge gate, do not enter it. That is how most people die. Especially the one where you can't run for 2 minutes.
- The crawler and pyromancer shard lords are easy to kill.
- The deceiver shard lord is hard to kill.
- Thats all I can think of for now, I hope this helps!
You... you can't be serious.
I can see why it's a legitimate obstacle but - and I'm not trying to negate how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it is - it could be *very much worse*. Like, think of how you have to pay to finish a level early, but altered it so you *HAVE* to pay the toll to pass regardless, rushing you so you have enough gold in the level to make it through. If you don't then the game decides you're just dead, and you'd get nowhere pretty fast.
... In fact, adding that idea to my long list of "crappy game design choices"; I'm probably looking forward to making a really shoddy RPG later in life, and things like these would really help shape my vision.
Shockwave can give you breathing room against normal enemies and using it twice from the power menu can amplify the knockback, killing them as they splatter against the walls. Stone Skin is reliable as it allows you to reduce lost health should you slip up, and Berserk can easily annihilate Shard Lords.
When upgraded the Brawler only gets more powerful, but the main benefits are the overall improved statistics, changing from a slow bruiser into a fairly swift juggernaut. Where the other classes rely on abilities to kill tougher enemies, the Mauler laughs at that, using only his incredible power to annihilate anything too close to him. While he lacks a ranged option, a Shotgun or Harpoon Gun can easily cover for this.
Now when it comes to killing enemies, you just have to know which attack to use on which enemies. No matter what weapon you are holding there are two types of attack. Stab, and swing. Black Katana is great because it is good for swinging/slashing and stabbing, but there is one melee weapon that does more damage. The fire at staff. Enchant a fire staff and Shard lords are dead in 5-10 hits depending on the shard lord. The way to really judge how you should attack something is based on its size and shape. Zombies and Cultists, either form of attack works great, I suggest blunt weapons like the bat for them because sometimes it rag dolls them which can help slow down the crowds. The mutant arm guys same thing, but it seems stabbing works slightly better. If the enemy is bulky (guardian, giant mage, etc, stabbing through them works better as they seem like armored enemies. And for the giant mages don’t stab the head. Stab the chest. The head is slightly more armored. When it comes to the crystal crabs, DO NOT STAB AT THEIR LEGS. You will miss at least half of the time guaranteed. Swing your weapon. A bladed weapon swung at the crabs works better than a blunt weapon. When it comes to skinnier enemies (deceiver, teleported, the laser staff guys) do not stab at them. Similar to the crabs, the target is smaller, swinging a weapon at them will be much more likely to hit. So remember, small target area, swing. If it’s a big target area, stab. The only exception I would give to this is the spiders in the Ruins. Stab those things.
When it comes to which weapons to use, I prefer fire spear, and the katanas. If you can’t find them or haven’t unlocked them yet, the best hitters are gladius, the spiked bats, the pickaxe, and baseball bat. You might have also noticed that I only include melee weapons, and that is because I refuse to use ranged weapons. Even with the ammo upgrade maxed out, a fully loaded shotgun will not last you as long as an enchanted katana/fire spear. Last thing, through testing out the weapons, the enchanted fire staff hits harder than any other weapon in the game. Statues are 5 hits, Anything else is one hit except for shard lords and sometimes the floating skulls.
The last thing I will say is the floating skulls are tough to kill unless you have an enchanted weapon or wait for them to charge. When they shout and charge at you, that is when you can kill them in 1 or 2 hits. If not, you will likely waste weapon durability. Also with the hydras, don’t bother. Unless you have an enchanted katana and swing at their heads 10 times, you won’t kill them. Their heads will also glitch sometimes so just stay away from them best you can. Hope this helps ✌️
When multiplayer comes out, then MAYBE warlock will be viable. So far, play as literally anything else, except for Necromancer.
As far as I can tell, the warlock isn't all that powerful until he gets his upgrade, but really all the upgrades seem to do is upgrade the abilities, not the actual stats, or at least not in a noticeable way. Necromancer I found to be very powerful as long as you go through all the levels and buy every health upgrade you see. The item that also increases your health bar with kills makes the necromancer stupid powerful
Combine the max health increase on kills with the Life Steal upgrade and the only things that can kill you are a big lapse in focus, The Deceiver and being knocked off into the water/abyss/lava.
